Just a quick one.
is the abs pump on a mk4 golf the same as on a mk3 golf ?

it's the same make and model (teves 20) but it's ecu will have a different brain and probably won't be recognised by your car. I've spoken to a few people about this now and apparently it's only the ECU that fails , not the actual pump. Have you had anyone out to check the ECU yet? Those fault code readers are ok but don't actually tell you whats wrong, just what part is faulty.

No.  not had anyone to check to ECU.  who can I call out?  I thought that if the code reading says 'abs pump' Then thats what needs changing.  If not then is there any checks I can do prior to calling someone out?

just look in the yellow pages under "car electrics". I guess it's pot luck as to how good the people you call are. You could just go to a local independant vw place. it's only gonna be £35- £40 which is better than forking out for a new pump only to find out it wasn't that after all. ( thats what i did when my code reader said it was the pump  :angry: ) it turned out to be both front sensors on mine.
