Title: Help Plz Starter problems

Can anyone help please, I have a 94 Mk3 Golf Gti, The starter motor does not engage on the flywheel. I have taken it of and a guy that rebuilds them says its ok. I tried it myself on the bench and the dog flys to end and motor spins ok. But when I install it it just spins and does not seem to hit the flywheel. Can anyo0ne offer any suggestions Please ?

That'll be the soleniod then mate. or the connection to it?

Thanks for that but the solenoid does seem to actuate and the dog is pushed up the shaft. Can they go intermittant :

Yeah they can, you could take it off and dose it with wd40.....
