Hi, could someone give me some advice on which 17cm speakers to get please? I don't really want to spend more than £40. I know this isn't big money but i want something that still sounds tight at high(ish) volumes but still have a bit of a bass kick to them. My plan is to amp them although it won't be with anything special. I mainly listen to alternative stuff with dirty riffs/heavy drumming etc if that helps?
Looking at these 2 at the mo, although i have no idea if they are comparible in terms of sound quality?

Or can anyone recommend anything else from this page?

Btw, they will be going in the door pods in my mk2.
Cheers for any help, Ben.

your goin to get what you pay for im afraid mate. for 40 quid id say go to somewhere u can hear the speakers first and pick the ones that u like the most. dont think there will be an enormous difference between them.

I've always found Kenwood speakers are good quality for the money. If you can stretch get 3 way over 2 way. Always best to listen to them first.......Trip to halfords, although can buy cheaper elswhere

I'd stick with the standard ones if you've only got £40 to spend. save up a bit more and get something better.
U gotta amp 17cm speakers really. the headunit just hasn't got enough power to run them to their full potential.

Got to agree with dizzie really if you can stretch to a bit more cash and give them about 100wrms a side you'll be smiling.
I've got some Helix components (German made, parent company is Brax - very high end car audio) and they sounded ok with 75rms each, they are now getting 200 odd each and without a sub I get some nice low punchiness from them in my Audioscape pods. They even go down to the really low notes admittedly not enough cone area on them to make a big impact though.
What pods you putting them in, speakers on their own won't give you a thump unless they are installed well, a good sounding install is all mostly in the way it is installed to be honest. My car audio has been in the making a long time, and still a long way to go with my boot install but should be worth it in the end.
If you want to stay around £40 then look at these

they seem ok for the money and i'm sure i've heard a few people on talkaudio mention about Precision Power being ok, I haven't heard any of their speakers myself though.
alternatively, have a look on http://www.innovationaudio.co.uk, and look at Target and Diablo. My friend is the importer for the brands shown on that website and i'm sure we can look at sorting out something for you

Right, been thinking...............
what kind of thing am i best going for out of these examples?

If they are all amped and in the door pods (i'll adapt them for the 17cm speakers) running off say something like http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4593.html, am i going to be able to hear the difference between the 35 quid alpine co-axials and the 80 quid helix components?
Cheers for any help you can give!

don't base your purchase on which set have the most watts stamped on them. The watts is a rating of power which the speaker can take. Just because a speaker can take more power doesn't mean they'll be louder than another speaker. :)
The alpine range of speakers are very good.

I've heard Target speakers and for the money they are very good, in fact damn impressive.
I am currently running/testing a Target TXS12 sub in a ported box and it surprised us how good it was from such a cheap sub and i've heard feedback from Target component owners that they really rate them
you say amped, do you mean you'll be purchasing a seperate amp to power them or are you meaning just running off that Panasonic headunit?
If you get a seperate amp, you will definitely tell the difference between the coaxials and components.
