Title: Fibreglass panels
Post by: Dubbernut on 22 February 2006, 15:55
Been looking on the web for a bit now looking for fibreglass bonnets and tailgates.  Anybody know of a place that does them.

Need to get the weight of the car down a bit more.

They don't stuff for VWs yet but maybe you want to partner with these guys to do a run and sell them to other members?

Hi..........i've just had my Carbon fibre doors arrive for my mk3 golf 5 door version and i can't believe how light they weigh (5kilo's each) i have some pictures of one of the doors if any one is interested in these or the 3 door versions.......or for that matter the mk3 tailgate , wings , dashboard , or for people who want to be really radical the full A59 rally carbon fibre kit.

Which is for the 3 door golf only as we all know....give me a pm with your email address so i can send you the pictures , but i will try and put them up on here if i can  not really good at tech stuff on comp.

Alot of companys will do GRP, Carbon Fibre and Kevlar if enough intrest is shown.

Whats the point in spending over £1,000 in doing moulds if you dont sell any?

Normally an order of 10 or more is the starting point!

(i would expect a mk2 bonnet to cost £125 - £150 for a double skin)

Doors wouldn't be a good idea unless you have a full rollcage with side protection cross overs.  Have you seen the mess a T-Bone accident makes......

I would be interested in a bonnet and tail gate for a mk1.

I would be using bonnet pins not the latch, and no rear wiper or lock.

Possible be interested in wings depending on cost.

Cheers

any news on mk2 panels?

Hi chaps,

I am currently talking to a chap that has moulds for double skinned bonnet and boot, plus he is making moulds for the doors too. I am trying to buy the moulds from him and will then get a local company to start production. They will provide either panels individually or as a complete kit (with perspex windows, if required), via their website. They will be able to make fibreglass/gel coat panels that can be painted, or carbon fibre finish. Each hinged panel will have threaded inserts for hinges and catches to bolt to in the standard positions.

Hope that all makes sense, will let you have more info as soon as it is available regarding timings and prices, etc.

Cheers,

Martin

I could have also suplied mk2 doors and tailgate's and full mk3 dash boards mk2 bonnets but only in primer......and the full mk3 carbon A59 rally kit.

That taken into account then, how much would you want for a mk2 bootlid? Probably one of the best things to replace as they only seem to rust!
