do you mean the cost of the conversion itself ? does that include the engine ?

or do you mean 5 grand for a mk2 that's already had the conversion ?

5k is on the cheaper end of the conversion prices, would probably be 150bhp from a golf or A3, using standard management.

or you could buy a complete golf with an emerald ECU and an audi TT engine (280-ish bhp) for £5500. should give you an idea of the resale value of converted cars, and this bloke has been trying to sell for ages.

 :lipsrsealed:

If the conversion is what *you* want in *Your* car and your not planning on selling it on anytime soon then i'd say go for it the price seems not too bad, I'd still ask around other local places though see what prices they'd give me.

But as topher said if your not going to be keeping the car for quite a few years to come, it really doesnt add much to the resale value and deters your 'average' car buyer from purchasing your car (Not everyone wants a pocket rocket) so your really not going to get your moneys worth.

Just my opinion.

if you could do the work yourself you could get all the bits needed for about 2 grand. but most companys will charge about 5 to do it!

So the offer I had made to me of £500 for a full donor Seat Lean Cupra R back-end write off would be well worth it then?

I wasn't sure about the price of the engines alone but that's got the 1.8 20vT in aint it?

Cheers

Ian

Speaking from very personal opinions I would do the conversion myself. I paid one company (no names as you all know) £4200 to do my car and looking back I would do the conversion myself and probably have a lot better engine than I do now.

You get what you pay for with these conversions. Give Voodoo a call on 07751 232531 and speak about the conversion with Elie. Tell him I sent you and he'll look after you. What they usually do is give you a shopping list and off you go. when you've got everything on the list they'll put it all into your car. Their work is A+ all the time. Just look at Simon Sweetland's mk2 to see what I mean!

If you do the lot yourself you're probably looking at about £1300 for the complete engine and management loom give or take. If you get the ECU, key and clocks you can use the OE management setup. If you want to go standalone such as DTA you'll need a DTA ecu which are £900 new, a loom which are £305+vat from stealth and a map sensor which are about £80. then all that remapped which is about £450 ish ontop. It's a costly path to take, but you get rid of the plagued MAF sensor :D

Where did you see the quote of £5000 dude?
