Title: performance exhaust

i have a mk 3 gti 8 valve fitted with a standard exhaust which is coming to the end of its life, looking to renew with a exhaust that looks good and gives the best possible performance gains. the only thing i dont want is the entrance to the channel tunnel coming out from the back of my car, some extra sound isnt an issue but dont really want to look like a local chav!
Any reccomendations or advice?
