Title: GolfGTI vs ClubGTI
Post by: Si on 16 February 2006, 16:22
I reckon, in the summer we should organise between the two groups a Club match?
GolfGTI.co.uk vs ClubGTI.co.uk? Two popular clubs full of quick motors...

Santa Pod?
Good idea or bad?

I dont know how to enter a poll up sorry.

We are not elite enough for them. Sorry to say it, but we are just too common, that is a FACT no matter who says otherwise.

Oh and they are swamped with 1.8T mk2s

Hay i use clubgti quite alot, Used them before i came on this site only cos i never heard of this one. s clubgti is so big, But i prefer this one as most sound like good set of lads. Most on clubgti seem to track there cars and they are very good on tech stuff well 1 or 2 are. I use www.golfmk2.be also some of there cars are unbelieveable belgium forum.

Post by: Agreeable Slick on 16 February 2006, 18:28
If you knew half the stuff that went on there you would change your tune. Admittedly tech stuff is pretty good, but its generally only 6-7 people that help on there. The rest slate everything and are generally so up themselves they can suck their own tonsils.

Well nice to know what you yhink off me   .

Club GTi is about to relaunch and hopefully get rid of some of the people that Alex(Slick) talks about :undecided:

There will be a new site and a new forum at the end of March.

I do prefer this forum tho as I believe that the sections are divided better, esp for different Mk's of vehicle

Hmm all this seems really strange and tribal to me... I am a member of Club GTI and Mk1 Owners Club but I use this forum as much as the other two where I am a member.  I know sod all about mechanicals - theory yes, but practical no because my job means I am too busy to spend time on my cars - but does enable me to buy nice examples .  I have a Mk1 Campaign with 62k, a Mk2 16v with 56k and a Mk2 G60 Syncro - Mk5 GTI on the way which means the Sycnro may have to go.  I just enjoy the cars and don't bother with all the political rubbish which I am sure does go on.  They are only cars at the end of the day and if people from either forum have a religious attitude to all this they need to get a life..

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon but yes there are some real chimps on clubgti, one of the reasons why I don't bother going to their meets, even though they are on 20 mins away.

There was a guy who was selling some bits I wanted so I pm'd him and he said he'd sort out a price for postage, 5 days later I pm him to see if he'd priced it up, only to be told he'd sold them a few days before, gave him a sarcastic non-abusive message back, only to be told I was female genetailia. No need for that I thought, and after researching his user name on other forums, it turns out he's a complete jockey.

I also posted something on there once about front wishbones for a mk2, and some queen decided to try and ridicule me. When you come on here you get a sense that if someone posts then they may have had experience, and not their 'mate did that once'.

Plus if there was a forum battle, I think there would be some surprises, especially if Mr Riley has his way!!

We are all enthusiasts with a common interest. We all enjoy our cars, the shows and generally get along. Lets not allow politics and the general running of each club/forum interfere with what we enjoy.
I think this them & us attitude is unhealthy, we all have something  to contribute to our VW world.

Haha nah fair point rich, but at the end of the day we are all as you say enthusiasts... so you'd expect mutual respect between eachother but from what ive read on that forum it seems theres very little respect there... and when theres no mutual respect the "us and them" attitude is really all you can expect :)

only ever been a member on here and E38, found both pretty much ok, but both ave made me feel like deleting mi account at one time or another, i feel like i'm blanked a lot on here, think golf-pro's the only 1 who comments on my car (cheers phil , or is it in mi head), yet on E38, ave had a the odd 1 trying to say i'm a chav, for mi metal-flake paint and led's for indicators, till loads jumped on him and told him to button it, inc  Sweetland, can't fault that, as for clubgti, don't know em, never been on it, nor care too.......

as for who i'd represent if mi car turns out well, there's only 1 answer (GTI.CO.UK), was 1st forum of any kind i joined, so thats where mi loyalty would be.......

I was a member of cgti for 2 years and used the forum for 3. I stopped one day and haven't been back on since. I was also the membership secretary for the club. Again told them where to stick it as i had enough of the attitude. Doesn't say much about a club does it.

I unfortunately signed up to ClubGti 1st and paid the £25.00,  for that i got an out of date magazine and a flyer with rules you wouldn't hear of in a court house,  i agree with the admin that both sites should interact but feel that this site is best by far with members been very forthright and honest,  and your not afraid to express your point of view on any topic :smug: :smug: :smug:

I got your back homes, I may not agree with some of the mods you've done, but who cares if I don't, thats the whole scene. My view is that some people have gained access to some of these sites to stir up the scene, just check the amount of posts they have, it's as if they want to disrupt our appreciation of other peoples hard graft.

http://www.edition38.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=21787&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=75

It's amazing sometimes how 'playground' it gets sometime, but nearly every time on here the banter is good, there seems to be alot less deleted posts on here as compared to other forums.

i do like to comment on your car mate coz i appreciate everything youv done to it and cant wait to see it finished.  I love it when iv done something new to mine, i post it up here and get comments about things, good or bad.

I would feel stupid on a forum like e38 or cgti with my 1.4. They seem very elitist when it comes to engines but on here it just seems to be more about the ppl and their passion than their egos. I love vws and i have learnt so much since being on here, thanks to every1 for that. I know where il be staying put!

I've been followin your threads closely actually, just not posted in em! Gettin me really agitated now making me want to go rob a bank and get started on my mk1 project   Got it all planned out what i wanna do to it.. and it should look sweet when its finished... but its just out of reach at the moment! I guess the original post of this thread about having a shoot out on the 1/4 mile has somehow turned into a "Why I dont like ClubGTI" thread.  People will go where ever they feel welcome and I think on the whole this forum welcomes everyone.

I've been to a few shows over the past couple of years and you'd be surprised how many people dont know that this place exists.

HARDCOR3: I have commented on what you've done to your car, only a couple of times I admit and certainly no where near as many times as Phil has.  I think people should give comments (both positive and/or constructive) more to people who take the time and effort to post pics and give us updates on what they're doing. Point taken and noted.

only ever been a member on here and E38, found both pretty much ok, but both ave made me feel like deleting mi account at one time or another, i feel like i'm blanked a lot on here, think golf-pro's the only 1 who comments on my car (cheers phil , or is it in mi head), yet on E38, ave had a the odd 1 trying to say i'm a chav, for mi metal-flake paint and led's for indicators, till loads jumped on him and told him to button it, inc  Sweetland, can't fault that, as for clubgti, don't know em, never been on it, nor care too.......

as for who i'd represent if mi car turns out well, there's only 1 answer (GTI.CO.UK), was 1st forum of any kind i joined, so thats where mi loyalty would be.......

I admit ive never pm'd you to say how much i enjoy reading your project section but i do, honest. You piss me off too cos your so bloody good at bodywork! Im only jealous though. P.S Nice car mate!

 only kidding mate, your car is looking lush i just never realy felt the need to comment on it. i do think that you had a good idea in posting a second thread along with the project section for ideas and feedback. keep it going, only a few days till paint isn't it?
