here you go :)

Well here it goes, after 6 months of searching the Autotrader & E-bay
i finally purchased my teenage icon, an E Reg 16 Valve with full
service history, in Oak green with 128k verified miles, for a steal off
E-bay and to top it all off a campaign edition.
So on Tuesday 7/2/06 i made the journey over from Derry here in N,
Ireland to London, got train to Kent an drove it up to Liverpool testing
the engine along the way to full capacity, from an engine and gearbox
standpoint i was totally overwhelmed at the performance throughout the
journey, at last i was able to put my feet up and on the boat from
Liverpool to Belfast i planned my attack on a totally unmolested Gti.
As a individual i am known to be a fussy bsaturd and rather than
totally mod this icon i decided to keep as original as possible, only
changing minor things to suit overall performance and drive quality without
sacrificing the original build quality and specification, the car is
structurally sound with little to no rust, the paint job is poor over the
years and will require a full recoat in the original Oak green but 1st
things 1st get the car driving mechanically 100%
Once home i quickly got to work with detailing all the things i was
planning to do with Oak to bring er back to the original spec, on this
post i will be keeping an overall budget of £1800.00 to spend excluding
the purchase price and transport, i will be posting a price of every
component purchased and suppliers for all U who may be interested.
Attached is the car as originally purchased.

Well been busy for a while with small items on the GTI, firstly done a full service other than cam belt, i then started by replacing the dash bulbs as the old ones were blown, also had issue with temp gauge and speedo drive been noisy, and generally bouncing about the place during normal driving conditions.
After searching the forum i came upon a post that recommended replacing the cable, so done both the bulbs and cable in one go, easy enough other than the red drive gear dropping into the box, had to order new one as old one is lost in box.
New cable makes difference with speedo but going to have to get gear drive out of box, jamming in box sometimes.
Also replaced all gear linkage from front to back, gear change is smoother along with the weighted Mk3 linkage.
Parts replaced so far
Oil £18.00
Oil Filter £4.00
Air Filter £5.00
Plugs £18.00
Oil Cap £2.50
Mk3 Weighted Gear Linkage £5.00
Mk 3 Boot lid shocks £5.00
Gear linkage and bushings £18.00
Gear drive (Red) £5.00
Speedo Cable £15.00
Dash Bulbs £2.00
2 tone Horn £10.00
Alarm FOC
Total Spend so far £107.00
Still have loads to sort so will be posting a wishlist later in the month along with some photo's

Well it's Gr88t to be back agian and in the scene, have totally neglected my 16V due to mum passing away as well as the tragic death of my nephew.

Well new year new cheer, decided now to get the ball rolling on The Oak Green 16V, since my last post i have spent a minimum amount on the car other than MOT and a few other bits and bobs, was hoping to get it painted within the next 2 weeks but the wife crashed her Daddy's car on X Mas eve into a Merc and had to cough up to fix the Merc, anyway enough of excuses, below is what i have done since August, pictures will follow later in the week.
4 New Tyres £150.00
New OE Windscreen £95.00
New Blaupunkt MP3 head unit £99.99
Rear parcel 6*9 shelf speakers E- Bay special £32.00

Drivers door lock mechanism S/H £5.00
Sunroof lining £20.00

The speakers were pure brock and requires changing due to 18 years of misuse, rear speakers repalcement was plug and play with a bit of adaption to the wiring, front speakers were a bit more tricky as you have no room to unscrew the holding screw in at the window, but again we got there and the car now sounds so much better along with a new Blaupunkt head unit, will post pictures starting this weekend with all new parts, hopefully now i have everything to proceed to stage 2, prepping for the paint job.
Still need OSF wing, front bumper and side sill decals along with the 14" alloys refurbed, will list my priority items later in the week

Well hear we go again, as the site was down i've had to try and remember what i've posted in the last few weeks.

Right after moving house last year the old project got put on hold due to time been consummed up with house in all.
Ended up buying a Mk3 8V GTI as a in between just to see me through, eventually sold this and put all my resources back into bringing the old valver back to life.
I made a shopping list of things to buy and tried to cost everything as i spent, a bit difficult sometimes but well worth it, stops us overspending.
I have drawn up a list of things that need done and parts required, below is my spend so far

Have a heap to update but off on Holidays now for 3 weeks to give her a bit of TLC, the car i mean LOL, will haev a mass of updates and picture overload so cheers fer now
-
Just a quick update without pictures for now, got car back form paint and completed rebuild, got full year MOT on 8th August with no tissues and i was awaiting some small bits n pieces to complete before a full photoshoot.
To my dismay and disgust i got teh car hit right outside me house on Sunday, damage is pretty bad but repairable and i will update with pict over the next few days.
Anyway only a car and no one was hurt then though P***K that hit it was off his ead on booze.
-
As from previous post what i can tell you is the car came back from paint and got MOT'd, back on road and then shunted by a drunken P***K, rather than go backwards in posts i am posting pictures of the paint job prior to the car been hit.
Nest week the car is going back in to get repaired, so you'll have to wait for a full naked shoot in 3 or 4 weeks time, anyway some pictures after the 1st respray.
later on will post up costing of what i have spent £ wise in relation to the build
