I may sound stupid but i was driving along a country road and went through a small puddle, it hit the bottom with quite a bit of force. About 20 metres down the road it was pulling and nearly cutting out and eventually cut out. I tried starting it up but no luck, Then i wiped off a few drips on the starter motor and it stated up. Just wanted to know if anybody has this problem and whether it is the starter motor being wet or if that was coincidence. It is a 96 SE 1.8.

Do you mean starter motor or distributor? A damp starter wouldnt cause the engine to cut out as all it does is start the engine by spinning the fly wheel and then disengages and only comes into play when you actualy want to start the motor.
A damp dissy on the other hand would certainly cause the car to run rough and stall!!!
Clean out the dissy cap and spray lots of WD40 round the cap and leads to help repel water in the future

if it's working again it doesn't sound like it went into the engine, so that's a relief!

Yer it was the starter motor i wiped but i did give the dizzy a quick wipe and a couple of electrical bits. I will give it a good clean and spray. Cheers
