...I've just got my car back from the garage after having the timing adjusted and a new distibutor head put on. They ran a compression test to make sure everything was okay and it turns out that I've got (or rather, the car's got) full compression on all four cylinders...
I must admit this meant nothing to me at first but they summed it up by saying that for a 17 year-old car with quarter of a million miles on the clock it's unheard of. They even ran the test again as they thought the machine was faulty.
I then got a lecture about looking after the car properly and spending money on it more regularly to keep it in good shape as they are becoming more scarce and more collectable.
And that's the end of my underwhelmingly dull story! Made me happy anyway.

nice one mate! just shows how well built old dubs are!
was that an exageration with the mileage?
-
No exaggeration I promise, it really has done quarter of a million.
I bought it 9 years ago with 91K on the clock and added the rest myself.
-
gorgeous car!

Thank you!

VW's engines if looked after properly will keep going on and on for 200k easy... - good to see a cab running so well... :)
I'm only at 63k on my cab - I've got loads left on mine then!!!!

That's great Phil!
Mines coming up to the 150K mark now. I did garage it up at the start of the winter, but split up with the girlfriend, so it had to come back out on the road as I could no longer use her Rover as my winter car
