Title: MKV New Order
Post by: av_guy on 13 February 2006, 13:09
Hi all,

I'm new in here so please be gentle.

Parents have decided to throw in their year 1 year old C Class (C200K Avantgarde SE with Sport pack, Full leather, Bi-Xenon's, HK sound upgrade, Tip-tronic, Park sensors and a few little options).

MB service is not something we had imagined - unsatisfactory for the 2nd time. Without going into detail, we as a family have decided to steer clear of the MB brand, as the product is good but, without the promised service, it feels like buying a car with no brakes

My father being a former VW evangelist (no, you cannot say anything bad about VW in front of him), has just ordered a new MKV Golf GTi 5 Door DSG with:
Steel Grey Paint; Sunroof; 18" wheels/tyres; Bi-Xenon's; Electric Folding Mirrors with Surround Lighting; Front Centre Armrest with Cup Holders and Rear Passenger Vents; Vienna Leather with Electric Seat Lumbar, Adjustment and Heating; HighLine Multi-Fn Steering with Paddles; Cruise Control; Parking Sensors; Smoker Pack so he can charge phone and Portable SatNav; Rubber Mats, Load Liner and a few other bits.

After speaking with the salesperson, who was very knowledgable (I tried to trick him into specifying an option which was already part of another pack), he alerted me that we did not require it, as it was already available - good on him  The dealership was both helpful and one I would recommend.

Drove MKV GTI with DSG and paddles - rapid for a car with no foot clutch. Amazing!

Any suggestions as to other options? What do you experienced peeps think of the spec/colour? Your input is valuable here.

If anyone is interested to know the name of the dealership/salesperson (and I am allowed to mention them - MODs?), I can provide the details.

Thanks,
av_guy

P.S. You all might kill me for the car I drive  :undecided:

i think your folks have got far too much money and should buy me a GTI

Spec sounds impressive mate; probably wouldn't have bothered with the sunroof seeing as Climate control is standard (i think  :undecided:)

Post the dealership in the Good Guys section if you think they are definately worth mentioning.  Word of warning stealerships are always friendly when making people part with their hard earned cash!!

Hope he got the mats and flaps for free - should NEVER pay for them I reckon

Forget the GTi and get a Golf R32!

Sounds like a nice spec!

Personally, I favour the cloth over leather. MultiFunc Wheel is unneccesary now that paddles are standard as half the buttons are for the phone which you haven't gone for. You don't need smoking pack as even the non smoking pack comes with a 12V socket, it just doesn't have a fag lighter.  Steel grey is a very good colour espesh with the 18s.

Headlamp protectors might not be a bad idea with Xenons.... :undecided:

Sunroof is a very emotive thing. Personally I wouldn't bother because it reduces the headroom by almost an inch it can ironically make the cabin a bit claustrophobic (spelling?). But's thats a taste thing.

Otherwise, good spec. What delivery times have you been quoted?

Thanks for the great responses... such positive feedback

R32: Parents do not want a fuel guzzler or a car that is high on insurance - the R32 would cost alot more with the options. The R32 draws a lot of unwanted attention too.

Highline: I am intending to add a phone perhaps, MP3 player, maybe a better HU, so the controls would be ideal in use with an interface to control the units.

The cloth does look really authentic - much like the original GTi. But, Leather is preferred by the folks. Nice to know about the Smoking pack - thanks. Yes, Steel Grey looks amazing with the 18" wheels, as the insert colour is similar.

Headlamp protectors are going to be ordered I think - good suggestion. Dad likes having the sunroof, if only to dispel too much warm air. Nice method to ventilate the cabin.

Delivery times are between 3 to 4 months (although, the dealer is confident to have the car within 3 months for us).

Thanks to all for your contributions. Any more comments are welcome.

Sounds like a great spec, but £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£

If they are not bothered about residuals and are happy to virtually write off the cost of options then this is fine!

Will probs make the car much more enjoyable, just don't expect to get anymore than 10% of the options price in 2 years....

Hmmm, yes a lot of £'s. But, we did get a good over-allowance on the part-ex and a few things thrown in free: Rubber Mats, Load Liner, Transfer of private plate.

Considering, the folks will keep this car for a while (at least 3 years), the wife and I can then use it to cart our kids around (once we have some) and the folks will get to drive my recently bought M3

This way, the depreciation and non-return on options can be absorbed (accepted) better.

We have had so many VW's in the past. My father sold his 1989 VW Golf GTi Tornado Red (Big Bumper edition) in 1997 for a little under £6K, so it shows residuals. TBH the value of a vehicle is that of what one is willing to pay for it, based on many past experiences.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've got a Gti at the moment but according to my insurance company because I opted for 18'' alloys that's a modification so my insurance this year was 1030 quid ( age 32 full no claims!). I've got a R32 on order - one insurance group up from the Gti, but unmodified ( as it's got 18'' wheels as standard ), my provisional quote - 640!!!!!!! so the R32 doesn't appear to cost more to insure than the Gti.

Hi Rog.

I work for an insurance broker & I can assure you I know of no insurance company that would charge any extra for alloys which are an optional extra.

So long as you have not modified the vehicle in any other way (lowered etc), I would suggest you call your insurance company/broker immediately.

Insurance companies will only increase (load a policy) the premium if the vehicle has been modified & the vehicle is more desirable (theft).

I have purchased a GTI & have the 18" alloys and loads of other extras & this has made no difference to my premium. Insurers will look at where you live, your age, accidents/convictions, vehicle & value. The older the car becomes (normally 3yrs or older) the cheaper the price becomes. This is simply because the value of the vehicle will reduce.

My Golf cost me £26K & I collect the vehicle up in 11 days. My wifes Mini Cooper S Convertible cost £21K. My wifes car has loads of extras & again because the were optional extras from manufacturer, the price did not increase.

I hope this helps you & gets you your money back!

So box clever with the dealers and providing you change your car regularly you can have your cake AND eat it!

OK, dealer called my parents today and confirmed the car has been delivered to them.

We need to arrange for a personal inspection, acceptance and number plate assignment from the previous car.

Even though it's my parents car, I am so excited. We expect to collect it within a week or two (dependent upon our inspection and acceptance). We have a GTI back
