did u know that if u hold ure MFA to position 2 reset and hold whilst turning off and on the ignition and starting the car the digital display becomes a revcounter
-
no i didnt but can you elaborate a bit? Whats position 2. Slider bit or the button on the end?
-
I tried it last night and laughed all the way down the road to 7000 revs! :o
-
cant seem to get that one to work on my 86 gti??? ???
-
doesnt work on mk3's though
-
I cant get it to work on a 1989 GOLT GTI 8v
-
I tried it today on my 1994 GTi 8v.
The MFA just went mad!!!! :o
The funny thing was that once in this weird mode, when set to 'mpg' it showed 0.2 when idling. Then when i drive it shoots upto 99.9, and then all over the shop..??
The other thing I found was that you could only flick through the mpg, Oil Temp and outside temp status.
So, No it didnt work, 'mpg' just showed lots of useless numbers. Once the car was switched off and back again, all went back to normal ;D

hi 8)
i tried that at the weekend there very good. there was about a 2 sec delay with the rev counter and the digital display. but its still good. once the car is switched off it goes back to normal.
89 mk2 16v

cant get it to work on my golf 89 GTi8v
do u leave it on the clock? then stop and start the car?
-
You start the car. move the switch to number 2 then hold the button on the end in while turning the car off then back on again still holding the button in. once the car is restarted release the button and then press it a couple of times till the digital rev counter kicks in.
-
Ive tried it on my 89 Gti 16v and it works after a while of trying.
There are two types of dash's if it makes a diffrence.
VDO and Motometer. I have the Motometer. But ill try on my Gti with the VDO.

can't get it working on my '87 8v. Does the same with position 1 or 2. Displays: 8, 2000, 1925, 3, 955. Whatever the revs those numbers stay the same.
I read a while ago about another little trick similar to this. Displays the inlet manifold pressure. Never got that working either.

If you actually go to a VW garage and spk to the workshops dept you can get a whole list of things you can do on the MFA. I think it was the early diagnostic aid before computers.
-
Whoo-hoo - it works, but what do the other readings mean - I understand the rev counter (all beit with a delay), oil, and temp but what are the rest?? :-\
-
Have a look at this site, explains most of them.
