Title: Mk3 16" Anni wheels - Mk3 vs Mk4?
Post by: Hallsy on 13 February 2006, 08:38
If you've looked in the wanted section you'll see that I'm afte a set of 16" anni wheels for my brothers mk3 gti.  Looking around on ebay you seem to see more of the mk4 ones for sale than the mk3.
I know the mk4 are 6.5J rather than 7J, and presume the offset is the same?  If so then the mk3 ones will fill the arches better - right?
If MK4 ones were going on a mk3 what tyre size should they run?  I know the mk3 ones come with 215/40 16 but the mk4 ones seem to have 205/55's fitted, is that aspect ratio too big?

yeah i'm sure the offset is the same... and yeah mk3 ones will fill better.. but really theres hardly anything in it

the mk4 tires might rub.. you'll have to swap them for 215/40 16  down anyways as your speedo would be out

The BBS alloys on the Mk 4 Anniversary were 18 inches and not 16 inches on the Mk 3.

Think he means mk 3 anniversary wheels and there are mk 4 ones about that are the same diameter as the mk 3's but they aren't off an anniversary if you know what I mean

Don't think he is talking about mk 4 anniversary wheels as they are 18's

Am I making any sense? Think everyone is getting mixed up with the whole mk4 anni rims thing

I'm looking at the same idea for mine cos the mk4 versions are a little cheaper than mk 3 anni rims

yep, obviosuly when I'm talking about a mk3 anni wheel and comparing it to a mk4 16" wheel I am talking about the same BBS RXII (?) that are fitted to some mk4's but are 16x6.5 rather than 16x7 as fitted to a mk3 anni.
Just wondered whether I should hold out for the ones from mk3 which are 7j and fitted with 215/40 or pick up the easier to find 6.5J ones as fitted to some mk4's which have a 205/55 tyre fitted.  I take it a 205/55 tyre would definaetly rub?
Shame as a set of 6.5J  ones went on ebay for £140 this morning, if they were a bit closer they would have been worth having even if I was to change the tyres.

The offset of the MK4 RXII is 42 where as the MK3 Anniversary are 43.
Its the difference of 0.5J
Main thing is keeping the rolling dimensions the same so go for 215/40/16 tires. these also fit the MK4 rims.

Yeah, I did the maths earlier and worked out that 215/40 is closest to std rolling radius, this is what mk3 ones come fitted with anyway.
Shame I can't find any for love nor money, all I can find is the mk4 ones with balloon tyres, work out too expensive to fit new tyres to them.
Shame as it my bri's birthday soon and I was trying to get a set for him :(
