Ok folks, make my car go faster ... :P
but... and its a big BUT (Like J.Lo)
Im 19 and dont wanna do anything where I gotta tell the insurance, so big exhausts and K&N Induction kits are out...
So, what else?
Well, Im gonna put some Bosch Super 4 spark plugs in... but what else can I do?
I hear u shout what car, and incase u cant see my little image below, its a '97 P reg VW Golf GTI 2.0 8v mk3...

I don't think the spark plugs will do a lot. Usual things ie. induction kit, sports exhaust, ported/polished head, fast road cam, chip.

a chip wont do much to a NA engine.. 2bhp prolly...
I hear Super 4's give better performance and better mid range

Changing your spark plugs won't do a lot unless you are running the car with really poor condition plugs at the moment.

To start with - make sure all the servicing is up to date as a badly serviced car will lack in performance, ensure it has a good quality oil, etc.. then you can try running it on decent fuel (everyone on here would probably recomend Shell Optimax) None of this is going to effect your insurance a bit, but you may find it helps the car.
After that, you are going to have to go down the road GolfVR6 has suggested I'm afraid.
or you could try stripping the car down to the bare bones - It's not as if the MK3 couldnt do with losing a couple of pounds ;)

no im using standard NGK plugs... good condition... but ive tried Super 4's in the past and they do make a "slight" difference, not bad for about ?5

Spark plugs will increase fuel consumption. Also to run smoother.

All these will fit your car - i ve got a 2.0l 8v also,
the Ecotek power valve is a small device you fit on your brake servo pipe. Its supposed to reduce co2 emissions and decrease fuel consumption, also the manufacturer reckons it'll give up to a 2bhp increase. I fitted one a while back but i wasnt impressed - it made hell of a racket ( a sort of gurgling noise - thats what the piper x filter is for ) and it didnt save me a lot of money on fuel. Maybe i just didnt do a good job of fitting it.
The panel filter just replaces the normal paper air filter inside your airbox - if you can afford it, go for the K&N 57i induction kit (about ?60 quid i think now). You'll notice more power in the mid range and a loud beefy noise when your foots down!

i got one of those ecotech things you can adjust them by turning the top until the gurgling stops, seems ok with mine the only difference i noticed was the throttle seemed more responsive but i might be imaging this, petrol seems the same tho but i havent had it long onkly about 2 wks.

I've seen them things but never been too sure about buying one. good to hear if they work or not.

will let you know trying it on a 1.6 driver and then the 8v so will keep you posted how it works out. i got it mainly for extra mpg!
