Recently purchased a mark 1 golf gti convertible 1.8 8v on a D-plate. just changed the fuel filter(the on under the bonnet) and the car doesn't start any more! Need help ASAP
Plz.
P.S this site is fat

Is the fuel filter the right way round? there should be an arrow on it.
-
yep, iv'e tried everything. nothing seems to work. don't wanna take it to garage, it'll cost to much.
-
If you've put the filter in the right way round then maybe it just needs some cranking to get the fuel px up?
-
unlucky mate you must have deep pockets to fix that
-
You r joking aint u? N e more views plz? help much appreciated.

Could be an unpleasant job but try sucking fuel through the pipe from the tank...
You need to make sure fuel is getting through, may be one mutha of an air block or something stuck in the pipe..
Good luck..
ps. probably best not to have a cigarette for awhile afterwards

Do u mean the bit between the fuel filter and the engine?
Do you think it is the air fuel mixture or is it a more serious problem?
-
sell it and get a decent car like a mk2 :P

Maybe its just big-boned

Yo danhock done that still not workin any1else with n e ideas? ???

With the filter off turn the engine and se if any fuel squirts out the pipe, if it doesnt you know there is a problem. may be a case of replacing the fuel lines. But check if your fuel pump is working first.
-
try turning your ignition on if your fuel pump makes a funny noise means it under preesure and you might need to replace your fuel pump.

Take the rubber pipe off the metering unit, lift the flap and stick a piece of card between the flap and the housing to hold the flap up about 5mm. Crank the engine with the throttle floored, is should fire then stall due to it flooding. Remove cardboard, refit pipe (make sure it's on all the way round) and crank again on full throttle untill it starts. Steve's way to bleed Kjet systems double quick ;)
Steve.

Yep, I can see how that would work. Thats another gem to add to my growing list of top tips from this forum ;)

Thanks mk1 i'll have 2 give that a go after work, just as a back up what if it doesn't work?
-
my car hasnt started for 6 months chill out and appreciate how beautiful it is compared to a mark 2
-
when the engine is cranked and then stopped, listen for the fuel pump running on for a second or so (know a few people whove had problems with relay) there are two fuel pumps on some mk1's and only one on others, (one with two has a lift pump situated in tank) unusual for a pump to just stop though but anything has got to be worth a try.
Good luck!
