Title: Twin exhaust cam's
Post by: dal xr on 09 February 2006, 17:30
Hello peeps i believe this is a mod that some people do on the 16v's and was wonder what the gains/loses are of the mod.

As some of you may know i had a power run done at the weekend and she got 158 bhp and she is now booked in for a complete rolling road setup and was wondering as i have got a spare set of cams is it worth doing the exhaust cam mod.

Plus what are the highest power figures you know of for an internally standard 16v with minimal other mods done.

Thank you very much Darren

Performance gains are negligable on this mod, sometimes the engine will respond well sometimes they will not. The basics to it is that as it is an exhaust cam the inlet will stay open that little bit longer, this allows more air into the combustion chamber, providing a stronger mixture to expload.

The main gain of it is that the car will pick up a bit quicker and low end torque will increase slightly. It will also be very lumpy on idle as effectively you are flooding the chamber with air. Also the exhaust valves will be open when the inlet will open. Just a few things to consider. Although as i say performance gains can be alright, but sometimes the engine will not respond very well to the mod.

I know of 2 lads running twin exh cams, said run better in 1.8 kr engine than in 2lt engine. Hotgolf makes them on clubgti forum.

aye, so they reckon 170bhp with it all set up? thats quality, i have set myself a target of getting that out of my valver, think its achievable, thinking, cams, exhaust n manifold, bigger throttle body and then prob ported head!

Trust me people spend far more.

I have got mate's that are spending thousands on xr'2 and they will never want to drive them unless there going to a show, so they dont get dirty.

Fook all that you have a car so you can drive it so bloody drive it and enjoy it lol.
