Lately been noticing that the car does not seem to be as responsive as it once was, also it seems to randomly stutter, best way to describe it is like hitting the rev limiter but when only doing 4000rpm. It happens at different rev's in different gears and is starting to make overtaking people scary as you get half way past and the car stops accelerating. I tried running a few tanks of optimax through it but that does not seem to have helped... it doesn't do it all the time though.
Also I was behind another silver turbo the other day and he left me standing and I'm pretty certain that its not chipped.
Has anyone go any ideas what might be up?
Also I have seen some mention of there being a secret menu in some golf's onboard computers.... does anyone know if the mk4 has this and if so how you access it

Coil packs people ?
-
Hmmm that sounds expensive :(
-
Just a note... some people have said it could be the MAF, I also had a problem with the diverteer valve a while back that has come back as I never actually replaced it... could a faulty diverter valve / MAF sensor cause this issue as well.
If so I'm really stuck as I then have 3 possible culprits and no cash :(
-
the way you describe it sounds exactly like when my MAF failed. i had it replaced.. and 18 months later it started to do it again so i cleaned it up with a bit of carb cleaner and its been fine since.
-
forgive the sounding stupid but whats carb cleaner?? and do you think its worth simply cleaning the Maf rather than replacing it.
And also just to check with regards to the diverter valve am I correct in saying that it is the bit that stops the turbo from stalling when you let off the throttle? whereas a wastegate gets rid of excess pressure to stop the turbo over spinning

Don't think its a coil pack, as when one of these goes down then there is permenant loss of power and your car will sound like a tractor :embarassed:
-
So this leaves the MAF sensor / Diverter valve which if I'm hearing strange chattering noises again probably means the diverter is deffinately gone.....
Guess I'm probably better off replacing both MAF (with re con'd one) and a forge diverter then I should be ok

Hi
Ive not had my 1.8t long and my problems sound exactly the same, have you resolved this issue and if so what was the problem & solution?
