I have a Sony HU single play CD and its a 4x52 watts power.
Now I am getting a problem with the CD player in that when it gets hot it over heats and stops playing!
Had this last summer, when if the car had been parked in the sun the CD wouldnt play until with the Air-con on full blast it cooled down! Now as its Winter I aint gonna get cold!
Has anybody had similar problems? I am wondering about the rather confined space the HU has and therefore there is little heat dissapation from the HU amp.
What I will probably end up doing is get a multiplay CD player sited remotely. (boot or under seat)
-
nope never had this problem but then i dont use the built in amp so dont generate as much heat. my cd`s can get quite warm tho but it has never cut out.
only thing i could think of doing is getting a small 12v fan and mount it in there wire it to the remote cable so it only comes on when the hu is on.
-
Only just room for the HU let alone a fan! But good idea!
How come you dont use the HU amp? Surely you cant switch it off?
-
i can actually turn off built in amp on mine but dont think many hu`s have this option.
all mine is run by external amps so no need to run anything off hu except rca`s
how old is your hu? maybe it just needs a clean.
-
I'd suggest there's something wrong with the unit - I've never had that problem.
Is it volume specific?
-
Its no more than 2 years old, bought it cheap but brand new. And its hardly been used as most of last year I had a company car.
Is it worth taking to have it cleaned? By the time I pay for that it may be just as expensive as getting a multiplay unit!
Not volume specific, just time. Takes about 1/2 to 3/4 hour to happen during which time the volume is normal about a quarter up to a third power.

you could use a tin of air duster?
If you want to have it repaired, my flatmate works for toad. Can get it done cost price...
-
Air duster? whats that? where can I get some?
-
basically a tin of compressed air... staples at mannington is the cheapest I've found. Should be with the computer cleaning equipment...
-
Oh right! Cheers Dom.
Is Staples still over at Mannington? Thought everybody had moved out of there!
-
staples, office world, some red thing in the corner
-
Well I went to Staples at Greenbridge, next to PC World, got the can of Air Duster and also a CD lens cleaning disc.
AND.......... so far so good. Touch wood etc. etc. seems to be fine now!
So thanks Dom, I owe ya a pint!
-
good stuff - i'll remember that
-
Ah now, well it only lasted a few days!!!!
So picked up a Sony 6 disc player up Blunsdon Market yesterday! Car Boot! Yes I know bought as seen very dodgy! But it was cheap! Ahem!
-
so the headunit works but doesn't play cd's? or have you changed the head unit?
-
HU is fine. Plays CD's until it gets really hot this takes about half an hour or slightly longer.
HU is a Sony CDX M730 - a face turn and face off unit.

 sony's stuff always seems to break well before its time
