Hello,
Not the most urgent job in the world that needs doing but something that
annoys me. My boot light is not working. Never noticed it before. I took the
light fitting off looked at it, there was some rusty looking colour on quite a lot of it, cleaned it all off with a little wire brush type thingy, went down to halfords bought a new bulb put it in and no joy. I took it down to GSF and asked if they had any idea and they couldn't help, was quite rude actually but no matter.
So I was wondering if anyone could shed a little light on it *what an auwful pun ... shame on me *
cheers
-
probably the switch in the lock mechanism, quite :sad:common on MKIV's
-
ahhhhhhhhh nuts  if it aint one thing its another.
Theres me thinking it would be just a new light bulb now its turning into something else.
Still at least the fault has been found and needs sorting.
 how do I go about fixing this and what caused the fault in the first place out of curiosity ... dont want it happening again after I fingeres cross fix it ... if I can :embarassed:
sounds like a load of grief for just a light in a boot but I'm always feeling my way around a dark boot looking for bits and bobs like reading braile init
anyways any help would br welcomed :)

Well if it is the lock, there is a microswitch inside there that works the light(Same as in your door locks), It could have been caused by your rear wash/wipe leaking onto it. To check this remove the boot panel and check for any breaks in the pipe.
Mine went on one of my doors and was about £130 I think, but it waas on warrenty so it didnt matter
-
my boot light and drivers door light have gone out.
i did have an issue with a leaking rear w/wipe, but a saturday arvo and plenty of cursing sorted that out.
then the boot light went
if it is the micro switch Gaz, can Haynes be a help??
also my red flashing LED on the drivers door has recently stopped working (probably the same time as the light)
ive had it all apart and nothing is loose/ missin etc, any ideas??
i totally agree with you soulman, its vv annoyin
-
It is deffo one of your switch's, get it pluged in to VAG-COM and thefault code will tell you
-
where can i get me one of those vag-com gadgets GazB???????
-
Ask on here, go to VW or buy one
-
Well I took it to my local garage, usually done pretty good by me.
But there so called electrical techinician could find the problem ... I told him about the boot lock etc ... but suggested it needed specialist help and needs a vw garage or main dealer.
Getting the hump a little I think the window regulators are about the go every time I open a window I hear a crunching kind of sound so I dare not open the windows any more just use the sunroof if nescesary.
Looks like I'm building up a list of things to get sorted .... the windows first off, boot light not top priority but very annoying as I'm always getting home at late night and needing my bags and stuff out of the boot and have to feel my way around lol
But at the end of the day I love the car once these are sorted the bal;ance of evil vs good will have been restored and I'll be skint
-
hahaha, keep at it Soulman, dont let the stealers wear you down,
we'll get them in the end
-
Pop into your dealers and ask for a quote, that way they will determine it is defo the boot switch for you and it shouldnt cost owt :undecided:
-
??? last time i asked for a quote the stealers charged me £40 for just lookin...
i had a leak in the front of the dash, and they charged me £40 to say...... You got a leak?!?!?!?!
urmpfh....
cardiff vw on hadfield rd that was..
i sorted it out on me todd after.....
so beware.
-
 :laugh:You all go to the wrong dealers and fall for their £40 VAG-COM scams. Just ask for somebody to look at it, no computer connection, if you are nice they will tell you your poss problem and then there will be no charge
-
hey, im always nice..haha
honestly, they didnt even tell me there was a charge until i went to pick it up!
they wouldnt give my keys back until i paid...b@stards!
it turns out there is a problem with early ones that when it rains water runnin off the windscreen funnells
thro the pollen filter (bugger to get at)
an asda bag has semi covered it for 2 1/2 yrs great now
