Ive a mk2 with quite a few engine and suspension mods with i built do drive hard, very hard and trust me i do. Just wondering how do you boys drive yours or is it just me? I know few lads with tuned up mk1 to mk4 and rallyes but got feathers for there right foot!!
-
Even in my Onitsuka Tigers my feet could be mistaken for solid lead.
Performance cars were meant to be driven hard, and I never keep them long enough to worry about the long term consequences of doing so.
That said, does anyone want to buy a 348 Ferrari or a 2004 Impreza WRX? One careful owner, never driven hard....Oops
-
petrol is too expensive nowadays
i do have my moments but i dont go stupid
when i got the gti i took my mate out and he was telling me to stop driving like a girl
-
erm... I gotta mk3 so I um.... *can't* drive it that hard!!
But leather and aircon make it a pimpwagon anyhow..... !
-
i spend most of my time in urban areas so i can't/won't. my average speed over the last 1600 miles is 21mph! that includes a couple of runs to Manchester (snake pass, ace when clear - ish) and about 100 motorway miles.
-
Drive quite sensibly, have a bit of fun occasionally when sum1 tries it on but hate wating fuel!!
When i was younger i used to be a nutter!! Dont know how im alive now, used to have no fear!
-
with a 1.4 litre mk3 drivin hard isnt a possibility. its hard to drive tho with slammed suspension, 17" wheels and no power steerin! il blame that for my big forearms
the max speed here is only 35 tho so fast cars are waisted here, doesnt stop most tho. A guy just imported a db9 the other day. was payin for petrol when he turned up wit a briefcase full of cash to pay for it. the guy was 27!!!!!!!
BASTARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
harder than the hard and hard as hard can get :P
depends, my mates with golf like cruising places i prefer to go fast, but i think i know my limits and stick within them. its hard to drive properly hard nowadays with all the crappy speed cameras, traffic calming and old folk!!
-
Ive got a Mk4 tdi estate as a company car and i cane the absolutely nuts off it!!!!!!
Its amazing how little you care about mechanical sympathy when you ain't paying the bills!! Gotta do 600 miles tomorrow so that'll be another mission!
sorry!!

I aint no better though as I managed to snap the bracket that goes to the front mount on an 8v years ago struggleing to stop
and the damage I have done to my poor mini is far worse but hey its all good
why have a fast car and not use it is beyond me
-
Not that hard really, boot it now and again, but tend to not ever go 10mph over the speed limit, unless its like 3am in which case ill jus cruise home at bout 60-70 all the way,but in 5th gear, its all b-roads where i live, really windey and dangerous loadsa people been killed on the route i take home,

ermm :embarassed: :embarassed: :smug:
-
My baby loves it rough
I have a habit of driving eratically when I have my punk rock music on...
But now my cd player has just decided to stop working.
-
when i had my valver, the one that neaty has now, i shattered the friction plate on the clutch up in the back roads of the lake district.

Im sure neaty will be pleased to read that!!!!
During the week all i mostly do is commute to work and back but come the weekend i do like to go out to the peak district and give it some, so to speak  But like monkeyalan, i went over the snake pass the other week and it was nice and clear most of the way so i drove it like id stole it  It did make me realise how much i need a new rear engine mount though
Stu

he wasnt pleased he was in it with me and it was the weekend be 4 i sold it him i think, also did a set of front brake pads in a 1000 miles, only cheap ones but still not bad going. i dont drive stupid most of the time but when i get up the i drive it like a stage, not safe fun but hell it was scary. neaty didnt speak for 30mins
-
the valver doesn't like it much below 4000rpm, i'll do anything to keep her happy.. :smug:

I was there when he did it!! new clutch and cable in now so is all good!
I always stick to the speed limits on normal roads with me walking on egg shells and all (3 points away from being banned)
but when i get on a B road it is jut impossible to drive slow and there fore give it the berries!
I like revving the bolocks off the valver so make sure it is constantly singing were the law permits (or doesnt see u )
-
i drive fairly hard.. enough to make bits fall off..
-
Cars were meant to be driven as fast as possible!
I still drive like a mad thing, when conditions allow. Like I have said before the traffic volumes today restrict the times when I can drive as fast as I did 30 years ago!
So my answer is hard and fast when at all possible and safe!
-
I have to say it depends on who's in car wi me or around me :embarassed:
If B's in his valver then its all out warfare but if its me on me own or with people who ain't into cars I'm really quite gentle with my car
-
fairly sensible im afraid, my car mainly gets used to commute and cos of the turbo conversion i have to let it warm up properly first which is usually just about when i get to work, or i have the kids in the car and it drinks petrol like its going out of fashion!
Particularly slow at the moment because the clutch is so knackered every time the boost cuts in, its round to the redline followed by a nasty burning smell
That said i do have to take it out and teach it a lesson every now and then...., cant wait to get my new clutch fitted!!
-
driving it like i stole it at the moment but only cos I want to leave as little petrol as possible in the tank before the new owner collects it tonight

4 new sticky tyres + engine fettle = group B rally car! in my eyes anyway! I drive like colin mcrae sometimes I have the pennines next door to me with plenty of open fast windy country roads so it's a great big golf playground. Fuel consumption is ridiculous now but outweighed by the smiles! and when it kicks at 4000 it pulls straight round to 6.5 in a couple of seconds so yeah drive it like it isn't mine! and watch the shock on guffers faces on sundays whilst chasing bikes :D

same as golfgal really, depends who im with, or chasing/being chased by  normally i keep the revs under 4k to save petrol, but i dont brake for corners
-
8v 89 Hard hard hard anywhere other then residential, anything else and you don't deserve the car (IMO) . Those fuel supplies won't last forever so best enjoy them before were all forced to drive water powered hyundais.

not very - Polo is my daily drive, and it's gotta last me a while yet. Corrado gets its legs stretched, but nothing too heavy.
