Title: rear right caliper handbrake problem
Post by: ashatplay on 31 January 2006, 23:34
my rear right brake caliper for my 88 mk2 golf gti isnt holding the disc when i apply the handbrake. Ive checked the cables they're fine, it seems to me to be a problem internally. Can anyone suggest a reason for the fault of maybe know of a link to a achematic of the caliper itself? Your help would be awesome as i'm due mot soon and dont want to have to pay a fortune for something i can rectify myself. Works fine on the footbrake!

Cheers

Ash

Hi , i snapped the internal mechanism not long ago on my rear brake caliper which meant it wouldn't work with  handbrake cable but would with foot brake, either way if i rememeber its easier just to replace the caliper and take your old one in. Half an hour fix; you will need to do a bit of bleeding of the brakes to get the air out.

hope that helps
