Title: what water with coolent?
Post by: bampotman on 31 January 2006, 11:48
Hi stupid question but what type of water are you supposed to use to mix with coolent? Deionized or normal tap?

My mates using deionized and i've been using tap water. His temp gauge is in the center (90 degrees i think) whereas my temp gauge sits around 70 and only gets to 90 in traffic. Ithought this was due to the cold weather until I was in his car. He thinks the deionized water lets the car get hotter in cold weather but i'm not sure and think I might just need a new thermostat.

You should use idionized water , its cleaner , tap water contains all sorts of stuff that you dont want clogging your pipes up with.

You can buy it cheap at most motor factors.

tap water, that's all volkswagen would mix with it! Use a bretta filter if you're really worried...

Sounds like new thermostat time too

Cheers guys. Think I might change the thermostat this weekend and it'll give me a chance to change the coolant water as well
