My m8 just told me i can plug and play a 8v gti lump into the 1.6 same mounts etc. and instead of wiring it up etc use the weber carb on the 8v engine. also he said the gearbox and everything just bolts in and it is a weekend job.
And as i already have a brand new weber on my 1.6 i can use this on a new lump i will be soon buying!!!
any thing i should look out for?

IM about to swap my driver for a cinquecento sporting. If i can pull this mod off by the sounds of looks good to me i will keep the golf.
i hope ppl here can give me some postive feedback and help me through, otherwise im getting rid of her.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo no dont swap your golf for a fiat mate itwill be the worst mistake you will ever make. Fiats really are poo............

yes you can do all that, the driver manifold will bolt straight to the GTI head, then you can just get the webber tuned on a rolling road to suit.
As for the injector holes, you can just leave the old injectors in, and think about sorting a neater solution at a later date :)
Some suggest welding coins into the holes, and one guy got a local engineering place to fab up some plugs. But if you cant be arsed with that, just leave the injectors in ;)
Edit: You can just swap the GTI cam into the Driver head for an easy life, but you wint get as large a gain as the GTI head has bigger valves in. The 1.8 lump will bolt straight onto the 1.6 head too, this will turn it into a 1.8 Driver :)

hey thanks for that info!!
im going to source a 1.8 8v gti engine know local from a scrappy or something not too far from where i am.. i will be carrying this out soon hopefully.

there are usually plenty around, check the parts for sale section, i think there area few people breaking some mark 2 gti's
-
fiats are a bunch of arse. so are french cars. total sh!te
as for making a 1'6 in to a GTi just sell the driver and buy a GTi they are dirt cheap. and you end up with the real deal
-
I only just saw the fiat swapping part, dont do it, they are held together with spit!!
-
And the plastic parts on them are made from melted down happy shopper roller cola bottles. And when they drive in sunlight you can see through them because the metal is soooo thin...........
-
^^^ oh yes they are truley woeful!

any car that depreciates faster than my nans second hand skiddy knickers has to be cr@p

What possible reason could anyone have for saying this? You clearly are joking or need commiting!

basically gettin sick of drivin an auto driver 1.6!!! i thgt a sporting wud be more fun as its manual etc. Then i found out about this mod so know i will keep it and transplant a 1800 gti lump.

I'm no mechanic mate but you would have to put in a clutch pedal, clutch cable, Gti suspension, breaks etc etc etc it seems like a lot of work and you would still have a 1.6 looking car. Why not sell it and get a cheap Gti and spend the time and effort making that look nice. Or if its the insurance your worried about what about a 1.8 driver there nippy not Gti nippy but still a good base car. Or (lots of ors lol) get a 1.3 slam it on some wide ass deep dish rims, the money you save on tax, petrol and insurance can pay for your mods, you will have to drive slow but when your cars ass is scraping on the floor you don't need to go fast........

i have a very good condition driver no dents no rust no scrathces 3door in atlas grey.
the bodywork is very very mint so i dnt want to get rid of the shell. Im prepared to carry out the work its a weekend job swapping it over.
as for suspension im gettin 45mm drop springs. and for brakes vented discs and pads and braided hoses. aint goin to invest in rear calipers
hopefully should be getting an engine n box soon. Its cheaper for me to convert the driver than buy a gti cos i can do it all myself.

Oh right mate i thought you meant your car was shed. Well good look to ya mate you will have to get a few pics on while you do the work you know befor and after. Oh did you say you had already broght the engine, im just drooling over one of TSR s engines The Silverstone 8v 2.1 165bhp. Big bucks but sounds nice its says on the advert a heavy duty clutch and gearbox rebuild are advised for this torque monster nice

Good luck to you! I think you'd regret getting the Fiat. Been in a sciento and it was, honestly, the worst excuse for a car I have ever driven.
-
is there much to be gained by putting an gti head on a 1600?
-
Not really Haribo, tbh.
The ports are very slightly bigger, has a GTI Cam obviously. Wont gain much, just wack the Cam in your Driver Head.. Easier and noticable difference in power!

can the PAS from my driver be used on the 8v gti just bolt off and bolt on?
