The spare tyre in my mk3 sticks out the carpet... how could I change it so it... doesn't? If I can that is...
Cheers in advance
-
isn't it supposed to be a doughnut?
-
Its meant to be a space saver wheel which fits nicely under the carpet.
Stu
-
Well it doesn't lol - it sticks up... will take a photo tonight for ya to help
-
may be a tad too simple but it's not in upside down is it? Should have the dish facing up, with the toolkit inside it.
Or it's not stood on it's end? :D
-
lol, it's the carpet itself mainly - it bulges up to make room for the wheel as if it's meant to :(
-
I've seen that before, my missus has a Golf 1.4 which has the carpet moulded to the shape of the tyre, looks like a tyre mound. Maybe that's normal?
-
Well it has to go, otherwise I got no space for my subs :)
-
My carpet has a hardboard backing to the carpet over the wheel.
So maybe you got a wrong carpet!
So what ya gonna do for a spare then Toro?
-
Yeh i think you'll need a space saver wheel like stu mentioned, then maybe a new carpet if it's not a flat one, and you're definitely right about no room for subs. I was thinking about 2 subs for my car but that's not practical at all.
-
I used to have that problem in my Driver, took it out and put a plank of wood across the whole so my sub didnt fall in to the hole!
-
Well I'm looking into getting some 13/14" deep dish alloys in the future so that will create some space, but until then I still need some room for subs.

I know what you mean, but if the wheel's not sticking out, I can still fit 2 subs in, as I wont be needing my boot for any practical use anyways :)

Here are some pictures of my boot as it stands...

Hopefully this will help!

are you sure that's moulded not just laying over the tyre?
-
Nah it's moulded :(
-
was exactly the same with my 1.4, I built a false floor and bolted my amp to the underside of it. Looks good and does the job.

What about the spare though? You just take it out?
-
got a space saver. You may not have to if your goin the false floor route tho. Ir you put some wood either side of the wheel to raise the floor up to the same level you would probably get away with it. Especially if your not desperate for space in your boot and will just be filling it with an install.
-
Cheers for the help :)
Yeah I'm planning on fitting some Phoenix Gold subs and amps in there (They have my initials on them :P) with my mown made install :)

cool, i used to have a PG 12 in my last car and it was quality. Good luck and get us some pics when its done
