Title: Alternator problem
Post by: mk2_singh on 27 January 2006, 16:21
well after much frustration i sourced the problem. If anyone is having thier mk2 squeal like a pig then this might be the answer.

The bearings in the alternator are worn out and after much squealing will fail and alternator will die. Thats it! I was raped by this squealing problem for over 3weeks of painfull agony. And today i got sick of it and i started to fondle around and sprayed lots of WD40 into the alternator. Will get a replacement soon.

Im very happy know with the car, and i wnt be threathening to drive it into a lamp post.

...or get your existing one reconditioned??

If you can bear to be without it for a little while... Bearings cost pennies mate... ;)

does the gti 8v alternator bolt onto a 1.6 8v driver? Will go to scrappies 2mrw for a hunt if it does fit.
