well after much frustration i sourced the problem. If anyone is having thier mk2 squeal like a pig then this might be the answer.
The bearings in the alternator are worn out and after much squealing will fail and alternator will die. Thats it! I was raped by this squealing problem for over 3weeks of painfull agony. And today i got sick of it and i started to fondle around and sprayed lots of WD40 into the alternator. Will get a replacement soon.
Im very happy know with the car, and i wnt be threathening to drive it into a lamp post.

...or get your existing one reconditioned??
If you can bear to be without it for a little while... Bearings cost pennies mate... ;)

will look into it... if i can find a alternator winding person in sheffield... back in london a recon and swap would cost me £30... i dnt have no contacts in sheffield, so will just do my best.
