Title: Fitting a replace ment Knock Sensor
Post by: Tornado-red_gti on 14 November 2003, 13:11

My mk2 8v has been playing up. Hesitating, lack of power, but only occasionally. I was kindly told by GolfVR6 that it could be my knock sensor.
I have checked out a replacement, its about ?35 from hayselden VW. But about ?50 to get it and get them to fit it.

Is it as simple as swapping it for the old one or should i get them to fit it?

  All views very welcome
     Cheers
  Dave

Is it the knock sensor that is at fault? fitting a replacement is quite easy, unplug it from the wiring loom, and unbolt it from the engine. Just make sure when the new one is fitted that you tighten the bolt on the sensor up to the correct torque, or it won't work properly!

Knock sensor? that the part bolted to the engine on the left of the oil filter?

I'm certain it is the knock sensor. Reading about other peoples similar problems in forums I think it is probably worth changing.
One less thing to go wrong in the future!! ;)

Check the knock sensor already on the engine is not loose.

The knock sensor stops fuel pre-ignition (pinking) by sending a signal to ecu to retard the ignition timing when the engine starts to knock.
