At the moment my security consists of me locking the door.
No amrour plates
No alarm
No boss snap off thing
No big crazy steering wheel cover
Any good suggestions?
I do have fully comp tho, but its the actual car I dont want stolen...not bothered about audio stuff inside...the car took months to find...
Grey 1.8 Auto [wooo lol]

Get a Cat 2 alarm, pretty cheap. (?100+)
You'll save the ?100 on your first years motor insurance.
-
If your goin to get an alarm you should get a CAT1 alarm fitted. might be expensive but if you love your car then its worth it. Insurance should drop aswel.
Second...
A Snap off steering wheel. Who is gonna drive away with your car if there is not steering wheel?
-
I have always gone with Clifford. Not had any problems. I went for the cheapest Cat 1 with a few extras. ;)
Other than that the Virtual keys options a good cheap Cat 2 alternative.
-
Def go 4 a cat1,no point in cat2 cos ul just want to ungrade later n ur insurance will b much cheaper with a cat1(toad or clifford i wud say-depending on model).
Was thinking of a snap off,but don't know,up to taste i suppose.Hopefully getting me doorlocks removed next year-let the t-w-a-t-s try then ;D!
U def need some security thou if u don't hav a garage like me! :'(
Dinky :-*
P.s fully comp means nowt when ur car has been stolen :-\,ul only get book price which is probs nowt!
-
cat1 doesnt always make your car cheaper if its a low risk thing...
for my old car i had clifford cat1 fitted and didnt save a penny.. but i love remote central locking.. lol
my new car came with a toad cat1 already, so didnt much choice there.. plus insurance on this one forces me to have at least cat1
-
remove your rotor arm when you leave the car. that'll get them stumped for a while.
-
Mine came with a toad cat1 but its s-h-i-t-e!I'm after a full closure, after i get me doors done anyway ;D! Its all expense like, init?!
Dinky :-*

Should be about ?500 for a top of the range alarm by GAP.
You can also get this thing called ''Discarnect'' (Dis car nect)
This thing dissconects the battery with a lock and keeps the interiour power supplied. stops theifs starting the car basically

yeah thats what i think too. my old clifford was better.. :(
toad alarm noise is weak too. the clifford cycled all diff weird noises.. was scary.. lol

I got given a Meta alarm by my dad. f**king loud! Fitted it myself 1 weekend :)
-
got standard vw security on my mk4 gti, but on previous hot hatches etc ive had ive always sworn by CLIFFORD, make your own decisions, btu CLIFFORD have always come up trumps, you always pay for quaility, the last clifford system i had was concept 50 in an xr2I, the car was pants but hey alrm wise it was the dogz

How about unbolting and removing your steering wheel when you leave your car anywhere? ;) :D
-
surely any theives could just put another on after they've seen it's missing though. still, slows em down I suppose
-
I was told with a 'snap off' kit you can lock it to prevent another wheel to be fitted Dizzy. not too sure though
-
Armour door plates are handy but you need to put anti slim jim plates on to make sure people cant pop the looks that way.
You can get them from VW parts departments.
-
Lots for me to think about guys, appreciate it.
Would someone be able to reccomend a specific alarm by clifford with a rough price? [I'll check out their web site as well].
Im not sure how much I can afford.
-
Clifford concept 500. it is about ?500 but worth it. Its got loads of functions. :)
-
Ok thats definatly out of my reach.
What would the cheapest CAT 1 be then? [not overly bothered about lowering insurance, but its nice tho]
-
clifford avital maxx cat1 is 250 from www.rsaudio.co.uk
jv

Thanks for the link up !
:)

Actually been thinking...
Will probably fit the amour door plates [whats a fair price for a set of 4?].
"Slim Jims" - what are they? If i go and ask for that at my vw dealer are they going to laugh at me for saying that?
Im not overly fussed about bringing insurance price down that much...I'd like an alarm that will TXT my phone if it has been set off.
Im not really up on the alarm functions, would someone be able to go through a few feature's i'd want as standard?
?250 at the moment is a lot of money still...?150 is what I'd prefer to pay, unless the ?250 is really REALLY worth it...
Thank you !

I fitted a Crimestopper alarm/ immobiliser and remote lock setup into mine last month. Works the treat and was fairly inexpensive. I don't know if the name is big here or not. Fairly big company in the U.S. though. Easy to fit as well. :)
-
you can buy a clifford alarm and pay for it monthly if you're short on the ?500+. defiently worth it. just think how suiacidal you'd be if you spend ??? and 2 years on the car just for someone to take it off your drive. I know I wouldn't like it.
just an LED on your dash will deture the amature TWOCers!
I have a CAT1 alarm and I still remove the fuel pump relay when I leave it somewhere dodgy.
-
hi there you can get anti slim jim plates to stop 'slim jimming'. aswel as the armour plates around the locks.
someone said their toad alarm is crap i use to know a bloke who work for them and he had 3 alarm on his uno turbo and that was secure! he was a pro fitter he use to fit them to ferrari porsche and so on.
the best security is layered by making every attempt to get your car harder things like proximity sensors make haning around your car imposible .
and with the alarms the alarm is only as good as the person fitting it and if there good and its a good make you have a winning combination.
and i can recomend a disk lok!
-
Any more tips - its not like there's enough to chew on alread but always nice to have LOADS of opinion's.
?500 is just waaay outa my league, I just bought new alloy's, exhaust ect...cant do that yet...need something cheap pronto in terms of an alarm at least.
-
microscan do some alarms i'm getting one of theses myself.
www.directcarparts.co.uk (http://www.directcarparts.co.uk)
theses sell microscan alarms i dont know how good direct car parts are tho.
it give you an idea of what features they have!
-
they seem ok they have a secure site so all things should be ok...
good prices too as ive seen the pager is ?150 in motor world and thats for the mp4000! :o
you can also checkout motorworld
www.motor-world.co.uk (http://www.motor-world.co.uk)
-
you can link up internal sirens aswell which make it a pain to stop inside the car!
-
listen up people, anti slim jim plate part numbers.
Nearside door Antislim jim plate 191 837 273 L
Off side door Antislim jim plate 191 837 374 R
No funny looks when you walk into the parts department now.
;)
-
i didnt even know about theses anti slim jim plates until a few years back...............
-
easy to fit too, you remove the two allen bolts that hold the lock on the edge of the door, slide the plate in place andthen bolt them back up again all without removing the door card.
Which is nice.
-
Ahh Excellent info !
:D
Thank you, gonna get some tomorra mate.
