Do you have a haynes for your car? Do you find it useful!? i have one for my car which my dad bought me when i got the car, and i was given the max power gide to golfs. Admitedly the MP one isn' my cup of tea, but it is quite helpful when it comes to doin simple stuff, it is kinda obvious, but they show ya good stuff, like how to delock doors etc!
Haynes is pretty helpful, if i just knew how the damn thing works... i sit with it for ages and then im still no better off!? haha!

I have one for my Scirocco which i found in the boot 2 weeks after i bought it and i have a mark 2 golf one that i had since i got my first golf! need one for the mark 3 tho i think. To be honest i dnt use them coz i am the worst mechanic in history and just get my mate to fix what ever needs fixing (something ususally does)

they are not bad, although they sometimes assume you know more than you do. Had mine for the last 6 years. Bought it before i bought my first golf.
-
Good in some ways - bad in others.
The haynes is good in explaining how to do things, expect that they do stuff in different sections and you have to keep refferring back.
But bad in showing exactly what they mean. Very few pics of parts, they expect you to know what a sensor looks like, but dont tell you exactly where it is!
I have used them on many cars and because they always cover a range of models they are not specific enough.

Clever marketing ploy that eh

yeah  i got the normal and the max power version, my dad bought me as a pressy. the max power ran me through suspension change very easily and was worth it as a pressy just for that. Some things id never do but then others its handy to read about I suppose. Same with the normal ive used it for a few bits here n there and can sit staring at the wiring diagram for hours with still no dea whats what!!

My Mk1 golf Haynes manual rules, its saved me a fortune in mechanics bills
I've gotta say that the Mk2 one is sh!t in comparrision (now mk2 boys dont take this as a personal attack ) it doesn't go into anywhere near as much detail, lacks the photo's and diagrams and really doesn't help much at all  i dunno if haynes got bored and decided to simplify their books or if its just the mk2 one but most of their other manuals i've seen are about half the thickness of my mk1 book
I've heard a lot of people banging on about bently manuals - maybe their better
-
got a haynes - for some jobs it's only good for wiping oil of your hands
a lot more detail can be found on the bently or here (thank you google for finding golfgti.co.uk at the top of the list)

I have both the Max P and the normal Haynes for my Mk2.
Have to say since Haynes ditched the "Workshop" manual in favour of the new "Service/Repair" manual they've not been much use.
I tend to be cheaky and ask a local mechanic if I feel anything is a miss so that I know exactly what I should be changing
