Title: Sticky Box!!
Post by: Alexg40 on 14 November 2003, 10:48
The gearbox on my 89 16v is quite sticky to use, 1st gear in particular is quite knotchy and difficult to engage.

Any ideas?!?

it's probably the ball that the stick pivots on. U need to remove the gaiter and undo the bolts down there. you'll probably find it's all mashed up from the years of shifting. cheap to replace it'll make shifting a lot better.

There was a step-by-step on how to do it in a recent issue of "the golf" saying how to do it better than I just said.

you'll need to remove the exhaust to gain access to the ball so that it can be changed

something the article in "the golf" forgets to tell you!
