Title: Oil being forced out of cambox cover??
Post by: MK4_20VT on 23 January 2006, 07:01
As the title suggests, what do you think could be the cause.

the engine has just been rebuilt, with a 2.0L 8v bottom end, here are my thoughts....

1.  The oil pump is a high pressure one & is forcing the oil out
2.  The breathers have been blocked off in the block & this is causing mass back pressure
3   The rings have gone in the bottom end (but it doesn't smoke at all  )

p.s. the oil being forced out of the cambox is ending up on the mainifold & burning NICE!

more likely a knacked rocker cover gasket, check the thread rubjonny stuck up about the mk3 style one that can be bought from vw for about a tenner.

I'm on my 2nd gasket sadly & the oil is only forced out when the oil filler cap is on

Breathers aint blocked are they or put in wrong? They will have to have ahd some sort of breather fitted to engine or it will just find the easiest way to blow out the oil. Breather i usually vented from block to air filter box. What they said 84_mk2? I was actually speaking to mark from dubsport today get both NOS bottles refilled on the clio 172 cup.

I found out that TSR has blocked to breather from the block, so the only breather I had was from the cambox  So they are going to take the plate off the block & attach them my.  Apparently you use the mk2 16v breather pipes from the block.

So I was currently driving my missus fiesta until the clutch pedal gave way

What colour is the engine block in your car?

well the std MK2 8v only has the breater on the rocker cover?  If you wanted to use the one on the front you could get the 2.0 8v breather pipes & fit the rocker cover as well, this is what I'm planning to do :)

Shaft69 my engine block is silver

Dubsport are going to attach the breather pipes from the block.  I don't understand why TSR would put a blanking plate on the block?

Could the blanking plate only be used for digi 8v's & not K-jet 8v's ????  :undecided:

Think this is my problem - and a job I should be able to do over Easter weekend. Can anyone shed any more light on the above thread please? I couldn't find it on a search. Thanks.

Thanks for that.
Is this a straightforward undo-replace-do up job, or are there any potential pitfalls to beware?
I'm keen but green, as Horney will testify...

only thing to note is you have to change the studs if it had a cork gasket on there before. If the studs have a shoulder they need replacing, if not they dont :)

I changed my gasket over the weekend and the gasket was rubber with metal inserts, didnt fit very well at all coz of those shoulders on the studs so when i ran the engine oil pissed out everywere!!  me mum wasnt happy as it pissed out all over her drive!!  so took it apart, cleaned it up, and used a tube of gasket sealent.

touch wood it seems ok but i think im guna look at changing the studs now its been mentioned to be on the safe side

Still haven't done this!

GSF tell me they only have the cork gasket listed. Anyone know if this will do the job on my 85 K-Jet 8v?
Thanks...

look for a mk3 2.0 8v gasket, though it wont come with the new studs!
the cork gasket will do the job on the 85 unless its been converted to the later studs.
