in my experience with paint, you get what you pay for, but thats not to say you should go for the most expensive either.  always work on recommendations from people whos cars you can look at after the work was done.  you could pay as little as £300 for a simple blow over but prep work bare metal sprays etc etc all add to the cost.  although im very new to the VW scene it strikes me that these cars are worth so very little that and expensive paint job is very hard to justify. for the cost of a 2k paint job you could effectivly go out and buy a much better car with FSH right?

usual prices start from around 1500 upwards for a bare metal respray.

yes this is of some interest to me in the distant future - ive decided an external respray in the same colour is easiest all round - and cheaper. otherwise we will be having a different colour under the carpets and around the seals to the rest of the car - yuck.

so if i managed to remove the glass, interior, and trailer it to a spray shop, to have it sprayed alpine white (standard) what kind of price would i be looking at, from your experiences?

we've got a monza blue mk2 and spent ages looking around for somewhere to respray, we only wanted bonnet and wing done and found it was stonkingly exspensive!!! but i agree with what was said above that you defo need to go to a place thats been recommended to you by someone you know where you can see the work done, coz there is alot of dodgy buggers out there who will do a cheap but crap job! we ended up buying a bonnet and wing from someone on here actually! was dead lucky, it was really good colour match and sooo much cheaper than respray!!!

good luck with your hunt mate!!

Reason for that is cos monza like oak green is a damn rare colour, i was looking at getting mine sprayed monza from a bare shell, think the lowest quote i got was about 3k.

also coz we wanted just certain bits done and they kept going on bout blending etc etc..... in the end getting new bits was far more pocket freindly!!

As some one else said its the prep work that bumps any spray job up. The more you can do your self the better and cheaper it will be. I spent 6 months as a body prep b!tch and its a pain in the arse, sand sand fill sand sand fill sand sand fill dust in my eye aaaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhhh bad memory's

Hi,

Depends on the colour.  Have just had a car resprayed for a friend.  Cost £1200 to prep and paint a scooby estate.  Candy red with a ColourShift clear top coat,  He did under bonnet, door shuts and boot etc.  The final product looked stunning.

I was quoted between £500-£800 depending on colour.  I know the lad so he will do a deal for me.  Had some of the light blue Alfa colour that flips, said he would put thay on the golf for £400 inc all shuts, bonnet etc.  Only because the previous job had left paint spare. Dont have £400 spare at moment.
As mentioned by somebody further up, it depends on how much prep time needs to be put in.  If you want every panel to look like a mirror it will be long and expensive.  But a blow over will be a waste of money and dull.

As I have contacts I was quoted for a full respray on the old valver - £1900 all preped and stripped out. I will be considering doing the rallye with them when it comes to it.

As FBF said - you get what you pay for.
