Title: MacGolf
Post by: steviem on 22 January 2006, 01:19
I'm currently working on what I am able to for my golf.
So I thought that I would start on the in car interface for my mac mini that would be housed in a mk4 dash.
I have found a work in progress interface on mp3car, but I'm not a fan of its looks. The program is called CCarProject, and as it is coded in Applescript, I'm going to see if I can finish it off for my selfish purposes.
It seems the original coder quit a few months ago

At the moment, the only function that works is music, and i have changed about 4 images - but this is how it looks so far:

Main Menu

Album/Track selection
(http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c166/steviemulcahy/music.jpg)

Now Playing

So any input into how it should look/function would be helpful, thanks

I know nothing about mac's but i am currently doing the same with a pc and software called road runner with the help of Allison from this forum. In my opinion yours is too cluttered. Simple is the best way. Is yours touch screen controlled? Here is a few pics of mine

I'm starting to think a PC might be better, seeing as carpcs are pretty niche to begin, I'm just making it more difficult for myself by using a mac for it....
I also need it to do the GPS stuff, but I would rather a tidgy form factor.
Guess I'll be looking into it a bit more. Nowt's ever simple!! Means I have to get a whole load of components tho...
Allison, I might need to get a look at your version of roadrunner....VW specific....

As for hardware, there are some dam small boards available these days. Im going for this board.

http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=2#p1620

But there are smaller available and some with passive cooling. Im gonna mount mine in the little book holder under the steering wheel next to the fuse box. Not gonna bother with a case.

Road runner is a very good front end from what i can see. You want it, you can have it basicly. Plus its been updated all the time.

Hi i'm currently thinking along the same lines.
You should have a look at the Mac Mini Intel. I have XP SP2 running at work as well as MAS OS Tiger.
No real early problems that i can see at present.
Apple currently have pages on there site showing how guys have been installing minis for a while.
The Intel version gives you best of both world with out having to find a PC form the same size.
I would recommend some sort of 12v mini PC Fan near the install. Macs like reasonable ventalation.

Came across a collection other bits.

http://www.2point5.com/
http://tunertricks.com/blog/index.php?p=40. is a good install.
http://www.macvroom.com/ - loads of component bits and links
http://minidock.jp/en/ - the one i was originally trying to find.

Hope this helps
