Hi all how can you tell the differences between the 16 valve engines the liter?? 1.8 or 2.0??? :undecided:
-
The best way is to check the engine code, it is stamped into the block. Some have 1.8 or 2.0 cast into the rear of the engine above the core plugs.

KR For a Mk 2 16v and is it 9A for the Mk 3 version??
-
9As were all over the shop, some were in the mk2s, some were in passats, some in mk3s.
the KR is the most frequent occuring in the valver engine range, there is the 9A and there is also an ABF.

He wanted to know how to tell the diff between the 1.8 and 2ltr 16v engines, not where they come from.

The 9A(2.0) was not fitted in the mk3 or the mk2, mk3 got the ABF(2.0) and mk2 the KR(1.8 ). Also, the the color in which the "DOHC 16V" is painted in is a "guide", blue is a 1.8 and no colour is 2.0, if the manifold has not been changed.
