Title: is my car a 16v or 8v ???

Hi there, I have found the car i want to buy but im a bit confused over wheter its 16v or 8v, basically if theres any VW statto's out there who can tell me whether this car was produced in 8v or 16v that would be great


Golf mk4 1.6 S automatic 5 door hatchback (1998 S reg)


basically the dealer is saying 16v and but the insurance companies database against the reg number says 8v  ?????

any help on this would be greatly appreciated

should be 16V  :undecided: my dad's 1.4 from 1998 was 16V so see no reason why the 1.6 wouldn't be

pop the bonnet and have a look - should say 1.6 16V on the engine cover  :smiley:

just checked the parkers website and for some reason it has 16v next to the spec on the manual 1.6 S but on the auto 1.6 S it doesnt have anything  :undecided:

they def did a 16valve 1.6 as they put it in the Lupo as the GTI and i think the Polo aswell, so it should be

well youre right the manula 1.6 is 100% a 16v but for some reason there is some confusion over wheter the 1.6 auto isnt ??

you should be able to tell by the width of the head :huh:
