Title: Wooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Post by: Agreeable Slick on 19 January 2006, 22:28
The old girl is back and going to be better than ever.

Spent all afternoon messing around with her and finally she decided to like me and start once more. I love my car. She will soon have all her timing set up and be dyno'd before being allowed back on the strip.

3 Months without the one woman that i willingly lavish money on has nearly sent me mad, although i need to learn to drive her again. BUT SHE IS GOING AND SOUNDS IMMENSE!!!!

Tomorrow = timing and general set up, then i am out to hunt down some gimps in their lax power sh!tters and cain the sh!t out of them.

I think he had other distractions!!

Must have been something really important to keep Slick off the road!

Or maybe he lost the key!

Main problem, all of the timing was shafted, it was so retarded that it was igniting when the piston was at the bottom of its stroke and about to come up to the top of the cylinder head again. We had to iron out a few other problems whilst we were there too but she goes at least so all that is required now is a full set up at a garage, and away i will be going.

Cheers for the comments peeps, glad to hear i am not the only happy one.

Mainly extreem lack of money and lack of enthusiasm to do anything about it. Spunked £200 quid odd on an entirely new ignition system for it and still nothing so just left it till such time as i could be bothered to spend time working on it, fortunately that time was yesterday, and kazamm she started.

well bit of an update, its hunting idle a little bit, and is at its fullest extension on the dizzy, think all the engine work is beginning to rear its head that it is not happy.

This is the second valver in the slick saga, the last one i bought as a blown engine, got the parts replaced them and got it running before my brakes failed and i was slammed into a crash barrier upside down. Anyhow enough of that one.

So now i need to book it into somewhere like stealth for the day, and see what vince can do for me. Will hopefully be in the next 2 weeks that i can get down there and get everything sorted out. So no caining of the motor just yet, as it all needs to be settled down and straightened out first.

f**k beans, now something under the steering column is smoking, not quite sure what but something is, have taken the housing for the ignition and top of the column off and nothing, am just wondering if it could just be a build up of dust or something as it was stood for almost 3 months. was sitting in the car park at work letting her warm up and then a slow line of smoke was coming out from around my knees. Dunno what it could be, oh well back to the drawing board.

have you checked the ignition switch?
Mine gave up the ghost at the end of last monthand although it looked ok from the back, when it was taken off it was all fried.
Just a thought, although, you probably checked that totally, unlike me.

Well just got the motor booked into Stealth nice and early (9am  ) on thursday. So will be leaving my house about oooo 7am at the latest. Its going to be put on the rollers, tuned, and have all the little niggles ironed out hopefully. Kinda getting all excited now as it might get a few more horses out of it, never know, i might have a 200bhp NA motor by the weekend.

well i am in bit of a rush to get it all sorted actually, as i need to go home this weekend. So tursday down to stealth, then back to staffs, and back home friday night, a good run on the motorway and some fast roads should get her back to her best. Yeah she will be good for dubfreeze, although earliest i will be there is about half 2 because of work. Good to hear the scirocco is going to be getting an outing too.

So its going to get a good run out then, it wont know whats hit it, on the sidelines for 3 months then with in a week its up and down the country al over the show!!

yea tell me about it, i bought it to be a reliable run around till my valver is back, but i have thrown more money at it than the cars worth so if anything else goes wrong and its on ebay!. Seems to be running alright tho, i dare not put my foot down as i am scared its going to die again!! like it did on sunday.

Well that was amusing...

Got onto the M6 and thought, i won't tank it in the old girl cos A) it sounds a bit iffy, and B) is she starts to smoke again i need to stop quickly. Anyhow, moved out to middle lane to overtake a lorry, and all my lights go off, then back on again... great thinks me but carries on now driving with my left hand resting on the the freshly bought fire extinguisher. ( just in case )

Anyhow, pretty un-eventful drive, and the car being boring as buggery to drive, i get to stealth at 0830 on the button.

They open up and start moving the cars out and in goes my old shed. Straight on the rollers, First run completed and the the timing is retarded to buggery, its over fueling and the manifold is glowing after just one run ( it shouldn't glow until at least 3-4 power runs )

The guys start playing around with the fueling, get the timing sorted and do another run, they look quite happy. A few more little tinkers with fueling and It goes for another run. Vince is grinning like a monkey, and calls me over.

Run 1 = 134BHP ---  :undecided: :undecided: - slightly worrying, and no wonder it felt a bag of sh!t to drive.

Run 2 (final) = 190.7 BHP --    - now thats the sort of level it should be sitting at, he and i were both cheshire cats after that. ( torque = 154lb/ft again )

On the way home it was like a completely different car, the pick up on it was obscene, i was gibbering like a mad hatter each time i put my foot down and it torque steered off .........

I am in love with my shed again

I was out terrorising modern car drivers last night in the 20v. She's still very poorly, but there's an art to driving fast with a free spinning turbo :D

Glad to hear it's sorted though! I bet that's restored your faith in her!
