I'd go for Osram H4's any day. Unless it waas a day when they were out of stock and I was desperate. Then I'd go for h4 bulbs by Ring. Either way they'd be Xenon.

I think the inners are H3 iirc, don't quote me on that, they could be h1's

you can go right up to 160 watt versions on h3's

make sure the loom can take it, u would be best to check with dizzy.

I have them in mine, but i massively over engineered my loom, due to me blowing the crap out of my original one

Indeed the spotlamps are H3 type bulbs, although if you fit an uprated headlight loom and / or fit uprated bulbs, you really shouldn't need to change these. Besides, they can be a real b!tch, especially the one on the drivers side near the rad.

no need.

I must admit, i wouldn't change to a single lamp grill on mine!

So its h4's on the out h3s on the inner!

I made my own loom form 30 amp 2.5mm cable, so it should be able to take a good bit more than standard, if it melts it's easy enough to make another!!!

does running 90/100 on an uprated loom put any extra strain on the battery/alternator???

Don't want any starting troubles!

Nope the alternator should still handle it unless its getting old & tired.  If the battery warning light comes on then you should worry :)

Theres no need to fit mega bright lights with an uprated loom, just fit decent quality standard bulbs and you'll be ok.  I've heard that if you get really powerfull ones the heat can melt the glue holding the lenses on the lights, not sure how true this is though.

just fitted some 90/100 xenons white/blue see how it goes ion the morning, if they are crap then its easy to go back to standard!!

just put 90/100 in the headlamps and am impressed with the nice bright white light, now though the main beam is pants! Or is because there is now not alot of difference between them??

Does main beam reduce the voltage to the outer lamps when the inners come on??
Should I put brighter bulbs in the inners??

cheers

Im a little lost.

I dont have an updated wiring loom but want some brighter bulbs.

What can I fit in the headlamp & inner spots on a standard grill without upgrading the loom.

Whats in there as standard ?

Cheers
Andy

std. bulbs only on a std loom I'd say, you'd run the risk of burning your wiring out with the extra current the higher wattage bulbs would be pulling.

std. bulbs are 50/60 I think. H4
inner spots I think are 60 H3.

Yes they will be brighter than a 'standard' H4 bulb, as they're Xenon. But because the standard loom in your Golf is sh!t, you won't get the full benefit from them that other cars might. You can either;

Keep standard bulbs & uprate loom = more brightness (prob not lots though)

Uprate bulbs, but not loom = see above

Uprate bulbs & loom = now were talking! Should get good results

Uprate to 90/100 bulbs and loom = like looking into the center of the sun. Warning may cause blindness in other drivers :)
