Title: how do you fit bonnet struts?

I'd like to fit gas struts to my bonnet, I understand polo tailgate struts are the ones for mk2's is this the case for mk1's? If anyone's done this can they say how, what bits are needed? mounting locations etc....

I have Polo bonnet struts fitted to my Mk1 cabrio (Not tailgate struts but aftermarket bonnet struts). The top of the strut picks up on one of the 10mm bolts that secure the bonnet to the hinge arms. The bottom end picks up on one of the wing bolts. I can take a pic for you if it helps.

Just out of curiosity, can you not get correct one's for the Mk1. I only used Polo ones because I acquired them for nothing...........but if I remember correctly they were only about ?20 for the pair anyway.

Ah, I didnt realise that! I thought the kits were about ?60 or there abouts. where can you get the kit for ?20?

I picked my kit up at GTI International this year. Thinking about it, that ?20 may have be an auction/special 'on the day' price so it may not be quite as cheap as that.  
I'll take some pics for you..........

Volksbits.com do them fot ?20 for a Mk1.
