hello picking up the k reg 1.8 gl that i bought for £100 with t&t from a guy in work on sunday ive bought all the usual service items like oil and so on ive also decided to replace the cam belt and the tensioner at the same time fitting shouldnt be a problem the only thing that im worried about is resetting the timming how easy is this to do or is it best left to a garage
cheers martyn :undecided:

personally, i'd leave it to a garage, but thats cos i don't know how to do it and can't be arsed to learn. it'd probably cost about as much as your car did to get it done

If you do do it, mark the pulleys and the block behind them with tip ex. so if you do move them you can align them up again exactly where they were. Old mechanics trick

Don't use tipex, just use the proper timing marks!
Buy a workshop manual.

Changed the belt on our recently aquired 8v last weekend.
As above time the engine up using the marks on the crank and cam pulley's. But make sure you DO mark the intermediate shaft and note the location of the rotor arm. It is very easy to loose the dizzy timing unless you do this.
