I have just asked our local VW dealer for the price of a new non PA steering wheel (sports) for a 16v.
280quid + vat!!!

Thats a joke, you could get yourself a really tastey momo one for that. When i had a vr6 VW wanted 130 quid for the gear knob and gaiter!
-
Get ypurself down to a scrappy and get one for about ?20
-
hey come on mate i no nowt about car but even i no the local scrappy would sort u out wit about 10 steering wheels 4 that money
-
Yeah, i have seen hundreds of steering wheels and they are all worn out, only slightly better than on the car at the moment.
Not doing the Momo thing as the car is and will be 100% original.
What I really want is some poor sole to crash their low mileage Golf into a brick wall. And then to call me.

GPC are doing amazing, and totally original design and appearance but beautiful quality LEATHER Mk2 steering wheels for ?180 (I seem to remember). I have a Momo on my 16v, the previous owner having sold the original, but holding this one at GTI International I was sorely tempted in spite of the price. www.gpcvwaudi.com for details.

My second shock of the week was about the new suspension parts.
A quick check in a mag for new shocks, front and back, 200quid each.
Read this correct - 800 quid bill heading my way. They were some special brand, so with heavy hearts we trudged into VW - not expecting much change from a grand. Never known a cheap VW part. An oxymoron.
Genuine VW parts - came to 156 quid in total. Thank god.
Thats when we mentioned the steering wheel and found we weren't on a roll....

hi 2 all........ y not jst go spk 2 'bigboyztoyz' & c bout 1 of their after markets - the wheel is bout ?50 & a boss is bout ?30? they got sum decent stuff & well priced..........

Hello
Euro car parts sell Bilstein gas shocks for mk2 gtis front ?21 rear ?28 just tought i would say.
-
Yup, and they do the original part which we discovered today was Boge. They were about 10quid cheaper at Eurocarparts than VW.
But to be honest, 40 quid is nothing compared to some of the costs i've so far paid out on this car.
Piston heads at 120 quid each (or something close) - that hurt.

damn that had 2 hurt!!!!! :o y not jst get a complete short lump? b.b.t. do 'm 4 bout 500 exchange.........

Tinman, you must have been looking at some pretty amazing shocks like, WTF were they??!! For that sort of money they must have been fully adjustable coilovers or something :-/
