on the passenger side where the washer pipe goes to the washers
there is also a wire going to the washers?????????
what the hell is it for??
mine severed a long time ago
might reconnect, but whats if for??
-
heated washer jets ;)
often they don't work but often they do!
-
so they often do or don't lol :D
-
^^ thats another way of saying it :P
-
Heated washer jets????
Driving home today, one of the jets on the drivers side wasn't working so had a quick look and also discovered these wires!!!
So they are for heated jets eh???
How do you tel if they work or not???
Also can you buy new jets that created a spray instead of the jet???
-
you can tell if they work or not by seeing if they work in the frost! to be honest they aint brilliant as all it is is a mild amount of heating but its better than nothing! they also corrode badly, which is why i said often they work, often they don't!
-
the never work in the frost!!!
I always assumed it was the washer bottle that was frozen though?
So can you get the new type sprayer to fit?? Anyone??
-
^^anythings possible, try it out...it might be the next 'must do' mod if you sort it?
-
mine work,, but it only clears the bit they spray at, it would be cool if they could rotate or something to cover more area
-
They're only there to prevent them freezing up when you're driving, very rare to find a working set as they soon gunk up & rust inside when owners don't bother to use proper screenwash
Try looking on MK3 Golfs in the scrapper, will be a little newer and more chance of em working! You could probably test by wiring em to 12v and putting some ice on em or summat, maybe try defrosting the freezer
Oh and while youre robbin gthe jets from the MK3, swipe the black washer hose, looks much better than the orrible yellow stuff you'll have on your MK2 ;)
-
Can you take the jets apart and "fix" them? I wired mine all up, to the ignition coil, and all the power is getting to the jets, but they arent warm at all! They were warm, but it lasted for about a day, then they stopped working!?
Finally got a pic of the washer jet mod i did, with the heated jets...

No unfortunatly not :(
I gave it a try but they just kinda fell apart! Its realy strange actually, theres some metal contacts and an odd disc in there!?!
-
The Bora washer jets are a spray pattern and really coat your windscreen I am waiting for a pair from a Bora in a scrapyard I'll have the pump as well just in case I can make it fit!!!
-
I upgraded mine from single jets to twin jets. That helps.
-
I'm not sure you'll get bora ones to fit in the existing slots though?! :S At least the way i did it it looks factory, and is easy as pie :D
-
Mmm pie.

Existing slots existing slots why did they invent angle grinders and welders!?!?!? I can make anything fit anything me! Yeeee HAH wheres my hat and spurs gone!!!
-
true enough i suppose! I just like things to be easy me!
-
Go to VW and they'll sell you a non-heated Bora washer jet for £1.87+VAT, or a heated one for £12.10+VAT :)
Or a MK2 one for 15.24+VAT
-
 How much! Damn, i was thinking of getting two new ones to replace mine, looks like i'll have to steal some and hope for the best
-
Trip to the stealership tommorow for me then!!
-
Ok, a bit off topic i know! I took the heated jet to bits yesterday, and as rubyjonny said, was full of gunk - smelt very much like fish water :X So i cleaned it all up, redid the connections, bent the terminals so they made better contact.. looked like a new jet. Plugged it in, checked it was getting 12V, which it was. Nothing! No heat at all! I really havent a clue why now!! It doesnt really make a lot of sense to be honest, as the disc that is inside, stops the current getting to the metal, so i dont see the need for it?! :S Anyone any ideas?!
-
yeah same problem that I had! I think the disc might be made out of ceramic or something random like that?
-
So do all GTIs have the heated washer jets or were they an option......
-
I'm not sure! I know my 89 Driver had them, as well as my 90 GTI. It might have been std on later models?
Perhaps it was part of a 'winter pack' which most english buyers decided would be a good idea to buy ;)
