hello all
this is a problem many should know as the modification is common but
it is a problem I have lived with for ages. my mk1 16v dizzy cap is off a fiat
which comes out at right angles to avoid brake master cylinder. trouble is the
fiat dizzy does not allow the 16v plug lead ends to fit as they should and
require butcher to make work.
I understand that a mk2 servo and cylinder would give me space but this
seems like more work and I'm not totally sure that all is required is to unbolt
and replace mk2 for mk1 item.
does anyone know of another dizzy cap make that allows leads to fit correctly
and avoid fouling.
you have no idea how much your help would be appreciated.
please send mails to ps@ever88.fsnet.co.uk
thanks
Paul

I don't know the answer to your question, but I can point you to http://www.clubgti.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=84244&PN=0&TPN=2
in pages 2 and 3 there is some talk about the dizzy caps and some part numbers as well I think.
hope it helps.

I used to know the answer to this but I can't for the life of me remember now............must be going senile.
Anyway, I did find this comment on clubgti that may help:-
16v engines run the distributor directly from the exhaust cam so the cap and HT leads can foul on the standard mk1 master cylinder. All the standard ignition parts can be used if you fit the mk2 16v servo and master cylinder. I run a distributor cap without the VW black plastic
shroud but if the brake lines are routed neatly this will also fit. There is a Peugeot-fit distributor cap which has the leads exiting at 90 degrees but this shouldn't be necessary.

I have fitted the mk2 servo and m/cylinder and have no problems, looked into the Peugeot dist cap and found as you have, the leads are not compatible. The Audi 16v engine uses a cap with the leads coming out at 90 deg, but is screwed on so you have to fit the distributor as well. Worth looking around the scrappers and getting the dist, cap and ht leads of a 16v Audi for a proper fix.
