Title: steering noise
Post by: monkeyalan on 16 January 2006, 19:44
i've got a creaking rubber noise coming from the steering (95 8v) . it's not like a slipping belt, it's quite low pitched. does it turning in either direction.

any ideas?

is the noise coming from inside the car?  if so, it could be the steering joint needs greasing, or abit of wd40.  if it's on the outside  the steering  rack maybe on the way out.
when you next get in the car,  turn the steering really slowly, and if it gudders, it's the power steering pump playing up.  or it could even be cos it's damp out, the belt could be slipping.  let me know mate.

it's not doing it today  it shouldn't be the rack as it was replaced 6 months ago. i think it is probably just the joint or column mount.
