Make sure it covers your engine - will say on the front.
-
mine was £15.99 and it does cover the 1.6 but check to make sure as mine only goes up to 2000 x reg

It will be 2001 onwards probably to cover the 1.6 16v, should say on the cover.
Alternatively, the library usually has several copies

These days the Haynes manual is little more than a waste of space. I just bought one for my Mk4 and it's useless.
Might see if there is a Bentley manual available.
-
Thanks for that.
Richardhazel: isn't the haynes manual supposed to be the diffinitive guide to your car ? or are they other manuals out there that are better ?
had a look on halfords site is this the one I need http://tinyurl.com/8ywqg ?
cheers

The Haynes is the main manual that people tend to buy, but, IMO it is nowhere near as good as it used to be. It'll be fine for most of your basic jobs etc.
The Bentley is much more detailed, more like a full workshop manual, but probably harder to get hold of and much more expensive.
As an example, here is an online version of the mk2 Bentley manual:-

Looks pretty impressive.
As my needs are just basic I think I'll stick with the haynes.
Thanks for the links makes interesting reading.
