i have just purchased a bypass valve from volkswagon (they were very helpful) . it comes in complete kit form (both plastic and metal valves jubilee clips and joining hose) the cost of the kit was ?27.55 inc. v.a.t. and the part number is: 191819911A. if anyones interested . keep warm people!!!!!! ;D

-
would you advise the kit if i dont have one?

-
You should have one fitted as standard, vw done a recall on it.

-
i had one already on mine . fitted new one today (13/11/03) works perfectly lots of heat . well worth doing only takes about 10 minutes to fit . spot on . thanks to all of you who gave advise . well chuffed  ;D

-
So i could go to VW and tell them to do it for free 2moro? :P

-
If the recall hasn't been done then they should still do it.

-
i believe that vw have stopped doing it for free now as mine needed doing but i was told i would have to pay for it as the recall has run its course. unless thats just my dealer.

-
mine was done on 94 k the matrix exploded on 172k iwas told its down to old age

-
I dont think vw ever announced the official end to this recall. maybe your dealer is being awkward?

-
only cos a mate of mine got it done under recall. try ringing around. i have seen a few cars that haventt had it done tho..

-
Probably vw dealers (stealers) are awkward.

				Lol! B4ST4RD5!!!  ;)

Ya on my old 89 16v it had been recalled but still went (which is odd), soaking my cabin. But the VW guys in Norwich fixed the whole problem up for free with new heater matrix. Guess it depends on the VW dealer u go to. Although that was well over a year ago.

This is a factory recall to prevent the possibility of boiling hot water being 'spewed' over your feet. It is not optional. I have spoken to Volkswagen on this very topic only a matter of a few weeks ago (as a result of a previous question on this point on this very forum). Volkswagen have maintained a list of cars that have been modified and they perform this modification to any car that requires it regardless of the age or the mileage of the car. It is not a replacement of a faulty part - it is the fitting of a safety bypass device. It is not for your local dealer to say that VW have stopped doing it - they have not. It sounds as though your local dealer is being very lazy and can't be bothered. Go and see them again, ask them to check if the modification has been performed and if not instruct them to carry it out. If they refuse,  take it up with VW HQ in Milton Keynes, their number is in the phonebook. regards, yt.
