That is a sweet Karmann
I'll give you that -
my bro in law is building a pro street Razor edge Ghia - looks pretty useful with 850bhp under the bonnet.

-
oh yeah! hes famous
-
Me and him bought our first aircooled cars at the same time - back in the day.
He bought a type2 bus
and I got a grotty super beetle - hey we were new to the scene we knew no better.
Now look at him!
Now look at me :'( - I progressed to Golfs (mind you he's bought two recently - but then sold them for some FUCH wheels) ;D
-
i love both, air and water, wicked seing them at the shows.
-

My Mum had a 79 super beetle convertable when I was a kid. Nice little car. The only air cooled I had was a 72 Beetle with a dual port 1600 kitted to 1832. I was running dual webbers and a megaphone exhaust on it. Sold it to a kid years back who left it sit out in the rain with no cover over the megaphone and it proceeded to fill up with water and then freeze and crack the jugs. Fun car while I had it though. neighbors loved it ;D
-
Used to have a Beetle 1303. loved it to bits, unfortunately it fell to bits :(
Would love another one now but not at the expense of a GTI
-
ohh.. yeah.. i went to RTTS '96, '98 and '99
as time went on it turned into more of a non-vw event.. lots of custom nova-knobs
-
yep like me aircooled too, still do have loads of mates still got em etc, i used to have a 76 bay window camper for about 9months, also had a 72 bug dropped with chopped roof and 9" screen, thos ewere the days, bugjam beetle bash, run to the sun etc!
-
I love aircooled v-dubs too. Always had a soft spot for a camper van, has to be a bay window with the indicators above the bumpers. will get one one day.
-
I just got pissed off with the majority of twits who drive around in aircooled vw's.
I used to cringe when I saw another bunch of goateed, surfing gear wearing, techno listening mupets.
And the scene started to get snobbish - Empi/Scat parts and all that
IMHO
:P
-
Jeez...that Ghia of Ken's is sweeeeeet!!!!
-
dont like surfing, dont have a goatie, and dont like techno! :D
less of the stereotyping though, people might think we all wear baseball caps backwards and listen to happy hardcore ;)
;D
-
Yeah I generalise - it keeps my anger management in check ;D
I just like my car because it does what it says on the tin
It's not flash, it looks good, they're reliable, it has impecable driving manners (even when I'm spanking her), it's practical (did I just say that?) and it goes like stink.
all the things 'my' bug wasn't really
If I had to get a aircooled car - it would be a notchback or a porker 993.
Each to their own (unless it's not mine - then it's sh1t)
:D ;)
-
which is why i drive a valver everyday! ;D
out of interest what the spec on you car?
-
Wow - deja vu!
Didn't I ask about yours earlier?
I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours!
G/F head, fast road cams, s/s 4 branch manifold
fitted and set up at GrantMotorSport Bristol - allegedly 165bhp at the flywheel
Koni Shocks, Eibach Springs, anti roll bar and strut brace.
Oh and most important - an aftermarket air filter - OH YES!!!!
-
COOL ;)
Mnes just standard valver, with s/s system.
standard bodywork, but lowered.
-
yours looks heavy
Mine will look like that once I trade up my RA's fro a fine set of splitties.
You got plans for the engine?
Where you livin?
Have you met Ken or do you just chat to him on the other forum?
He's been working on that Ghia for years - but he's doing the detailing which is admirable.
-
Heavy? is that good?
live in leicester, not sure about the engine, runs ok, but i will no doubt end up doing something to it, did you have the engine mods done to your car?
happy with it?
-
I bought the car with an overbored BRM bottom end (meant to be OK - it had reciepts dor the build totalling 3.5k! - it had done 60k on this rebuild.
It had done 170k when I bought it - so I treated it to a top end workout.
I heard of Grant in Bristol thru a friend - and the geezer knows what he's doing.
My car f-ing flew - I really was the happiest man in London when I had it.
It doesn't no more - coz I got hit up the ass on the M4 begining of last month- so top end is getting thrown in my new car as is the suspension set up and anything else I can get out.
I can recomned a new head and cams - fuel ecomomy is only slightly down on what it was.
What suspension is on yours?
Heavy is a complimentry term amigo -
Heavy (adj) - Tough
-
its on spax suspension.
considering how low it is it's quite a nice drive.
