Well i quite fancy some of them German look plates from Dubmeister and i just wondered if anyone had any experience of using them on a day to day basis.
I know strictly speaking they are not for road use but have you been pulled? Were they angry? Shall i just keep my other plates in the boot and say i left them on by accident?
Also what about 100watt bulbs, again not strictly legal, but has anyone been pulled for using them? How noticable is the difference from standard bulbs?
Ta.

dunno about the plates. the bulbs are like normal modern day headlight only two fractions brighter. when you use them with an uprated headlight loom they are erxcellent. I've never been stopped by the pigs for my head lights
-
As with everything, this is all at the persons discretion who pulls you...
can always try and plead about the plates, round here if u can change them, on the spot they can be ok, but i have friends who have been pulled for non legal plates and different things have happened even though they could and did change plates back on the spot!
-
according to the latest edition of golf+ they are about to become very illegal, to the point where you will not be aloud to use them at shows either!!!
-
well i got pulled tonight, an i had my plates on, he never mentioned anything
-
I never got pulled for german plates. I never got pulled for not running a front one at all for that matter... :D
-
Thats cos the pigs only ever see that your front one is missing when you pass them at break neck speeds. By the time they have thrown a U turn your a mere spek on the horizon.
-
well yeah that too :D

Que the swelling of Dizzies head just cos hes got a faster motor than most of us. Anyway, my dads bigger than your dad!

Someone once said to me that you can register your car to be german and then they won't be illegal as I have a set waiting to go on.
I don't know anything about it, anyone else know anything? Does it cost anything? Make your insurance go up?
El x

sorry but that's a load of c0ck .. cant be registered as german.
i know they're supposed to be tightening up on these regulations, and increasing the fine from £30 to £60. something to do with the fact it farks up the automated numberplate recognition cameras... a lot of people will still risk it though no doubt.

lol The guy didn't even own a vw anyways.. Never listen to a peugeot driver lol
Also is there anything you can buy that you can just swop them over quickly? Like some sort of carrier?
-
lol@peugeots.
you should be okay, women rarely get done for things like that, just play dumb and flutter your eyelashes if you get pulled.

Velcro strips? Good call. Although you would have to watch out for theiving gypsies. No offence to any gypsies on the site.
I think i am going to take the risk and get some plates.
Could do with one of them revolving number plate things like James Bond. Hmmmm......
-
hehehe thats always a bonus! I got away with driving my mates car with no insurance once   just told me to look after it lol
Dosn't velcro stop working when its wet.. ? Never thought bout theives.. I don't think I would get hassled much anyways! :undecided:
-
got velcro on my number plates and it works fine, even in the harshest of Welsh winter rain
as long as you put strips top & bottom and both sides then it should be fine
-
Hmm... What type of velcro in particular... lol
-
got a strip of it from Dunelm Mill - its a textile place in case you've not heard of it
failing that any other textile place should stock it - its quite cheap and means you don't have the screws ruining the look of your number plates

100/80 watt outer headlamps, and 160 watt inner main beam, bright as fook, never been stopped :nerd:

I had black and silver plates on mine no worries now running yellow and black pressed metal plates again no worries imho if it isn't unreadable like italics, carbon fibre and made to say kev woz ere then they should let you swap it.
Just double up black plate in front normal behind 2 screws and it's done.
-
i used to have *cough* chrome number plate surrounds on my *cough* pug 306 which allowed for the swapping of plates without the need of any tools. Suppose these would work if you wanted to go down the swapable route. Got em from *cough* Halfords.
How ashamed am i of my past!
-
Ahh i suppose after seeing the lexus lights on your white mk2 i should have figured.........

Hi all, most plods will not bother about german style number plates providing the colours are correct (i.e one yellow and one white with black lettering) and the format of the letters remains in the original pattern and the letters are clear (i.e H838 LSD not H8 38 LSD), It is also worth bearing in mind that the road traffic act and the MOT testers requirements do not match, for example if your car had purple and green number plates and the type spacing etc was correct it would pass an MOT but evidently you would get done for them, similarly if you have a particularly anal MOT tester they will fail your plates come MOT time so worth keeping the originals. As for not using them at shows that is utter b*llocks, you can put any plate on your car when it is not on a public highway as the construction and use regs and road traffic act clearly do not apply, and no you cannot register your car in Germany without a German address and even then you can only use the plates outside Germany for a limited time. and the police NPR systems will still pickup a german plated car, Hope this helps
