what engine is it pete? im guessing its not a gti seeing as you mentioned a carb in there..
-
it is a 1991 1.6 driver was fitted with a cat but have removed it

a Fuel pressure regulator ups the pressure the fuel goes in, but not sure if you can do that with a carb.
Putting 'high performance' leads on won't make any difference to the performance, but they look nice in blue :D
Apparently the gti cam is a simple, but effective upgrade to the driver engine.
a free flowing filter will free up 0.5 bhp :D
-
WOW a whole 0.5 BHP i best get the touch out and do it now    anyway what is free flowing filter ??? so all i can do really is a cam from the GTI. will be getting that next week then roughly what will i gain ??? 5-6 BHP

get the 8v GTI manifold exhaust also
-
will the manifold go straight on ??? what about the rest of the exhaust ???
-
yes it will fit straight on.
not sure if the driver exhaust bore is smaller or not than the 8v GTI - someone else should be able to confirm
-
don't think the driver exhaust will fit the manifold but i'f you're gonna put a gti manifold on you might as well put on the rest of a gti system....

Take a look at getting a webber carb to replace the crappy pierburg one. The webber if set up right should give you a nice boost. Either that or the the bolt on K & N filter might be alright. I think there's a webber on ebay at the moment, might be worth a look. The cam would be a good place to start as mentioned earlier.
Strangely enough, I never really bothered doing any engine mods to my driver when I had it, but then it had done over 215,000 and had a crack in the head! Ha I can remember the tank now!!
-
does it have to be a MK2 golf webber carb or can i fit any one with a base plate converter as i have a 2.0 serria twin choke in my shed ???

Here's the on you want it's the webber 32/34 twin carb model, which will go straight on;

Not too bad a price at the minute as well, a good mod for the driver.
I guess you could modify pretty much any carb to work with enough mechanical experience, but that would be well beyond me. Don't know if anyone's done anything like that before on here?
-
Yea theres a cheap weber that would fit a 1.6 on ebay at the moment. Befor doing any mod i would do a full service and get a good tune up its suprising what this can do to a old motor then start with filters, zorsts ect oh and it a fse power boost valve mate cheers

the gti manifold etc are exactly the same where they meet the head, get a stainless one
-
I put a GTI exhaust on my driver, from downpipe backwards to tailpipe. I had to make an enlargement pipe to go between Driver downpipe and GTI system. Dont know if it made difference to BHP or performance but its sounds quite nice now. (i used an Ernst cheapy GTI stainless system), not too loud with a nice burble noise.
