Title: how do mk4 gearknobs fit??
Post by: MJF44 on 08 January 2006, 21:43
please can anyone advise me on how the gearknob fits. my car had a non-original one on when i bought it so i've got a new one from vw but i've been scratching my head how it fits on - it goes on ok but just spins round . on my mates mk4  it looks like the gaiter is somehow attatched the the knob. any advise would be appreciated, thanks.

Hard to explain this, did your vw knob come with a gaiter too?  if not there is a plastic sleeve on the bottom of the VW knob that comes apart and the gaiter clips into here then to stop your knob spining there should be a metal clip which you need to crimp on at the base of the knob :undecided: :undecided: :undecided:.  Confused, me too

couldnt have explained it any clearer myself ive just changed mine to a leather one out of a beetle just crimp the metal clip with some pliers if youve got one if not you need to get one or try a jubilee clip or similar to tighten the plastic onto the the knurled part of the stick
