				Can anyone help?

I've got a mk2 Golf Gti 1.8 8v.  The problem is it some times revs on it's own.  Someone suggested that it's the throttle valve switch that sits on top of the throttle.  Has anyone experienced this before and what can be done about it and if needed were and how much will the part cost.

 Cheers

 Any guidance appreciated

Is your car tuned right? I think the throttle switch is for letting the ECU know that the car is on full throttle.

Mine revs up and down around the 1000-Rev mark. GTi's have an automatic choke to keep the car idle i think

Which engine is it? digifant or k-jet?

				This may help you:-

				Hey there,

It's a digifant. very strange it only does it sometimes and it usually does it for 5- 10 mins sometimes not even that and then it will stop.

 cheers

Maybe a problem with the idle stabilisation valve, also as a suggestion maybe get the car on a fault code reader. What does the car drive like?

-
Cheers for all the pointers so far everyone, much apreciated.

The car drives like new mate sweet as.  It's only done 57000 miles.

 Cheers

What's the difference between digifant and k-jet and how do you know which one you have  ???

-
K-jets have a fuel distributor(like spaghetti junction) on top of the airbox, digifants don't, they have a fuel rail.

-
why did they bother to have two types?

-
The later type(digifant) is a fully electronic fuel injection system. This the way all cars went in the late 80s early 90s.

I had precisely the same problem with my 8v digi.  Cleaning the ISV sorted it right out  :)
