Title: Fuel economy?
Post by: gc350 on 06 January 2006, 09:16
At the moment i'm getting about 35mpg from unleaded petrol, but only about 29mpg from super unleaded.  I was always under the impression that the mpg returns from super unleaded should be greater.  Now i'm realy confused.

Any suggestions to why this may be.

i always thought super unleaded was higher octane therefore gave better performane not economy....not 100% sure though could be i just drive faster when i have filled up with super unleaded!!

depends on what your engine is rated for

i.e. a GTI runs better and smoother on Optimax as its designed for that so should give better performance AND economy!!

My 1.6 doesn't really like unleaded let alone the super stuff as its only rated for 91RON

Have you tried running it on Optimax ? I find I get a slightly better MPG than unleaded and loads more on a good run.
